Insignia NS-50DR620NA18 w/ large vertical lines & no picture

I'm not sure what to do next and came here since y'all helped me fix a 50" plasma TV back in 2014, which is still working!

A friend gave me an Insignia NS-50DR620NA18 50" TV that suddenly developed large vertical lines on it. He said he had no idea what might have caused it and has replaced it with a larger TV. He was going to throw it away.

I did not notice any bulged or leaking caps on any board, the voltages produced by the power supply match the voltage that the pins are marked. The backlight leds are working. I have tried cleaning the ribbon cables on the T-CON board with isopropyl alchohol with no changes. I noticed that the mainboard seems to be working as the display changes (more red) when I push the Netflix button on the remote.

I have swapped the T-CON board as well as the mainboard with no changes to failure mode. I tried unpluging the ribbon cables from the T-CON board to the tab bonding board one at a time and the vertical lines stay with the side that is still plugged in, the other side has no picture.

I've lightly pushed on the tab bonding board flex cables and saw no changes in the picture.

Let me know if you would like more/better/different pictures and I will get them for you.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like you have done a good job testing things, not a lot left, maybe test the little mlc caps on the panel driver boards for shorts or very low ohms.

I'm not certain what caps I'm looking for or the values I should expect to see. I have attached some pics of the tab boards, can you give me some guidance on what I'm looking for? Thanks.

Those little brown ceramic caps, they have the designator next to them, the ones starting with C are capacitors.

The big copper pad on the end should be ground for each board, put neg. probe on it, pos. probe on either side of cap one side should show continuity to ground the other should not, can also put a probe on each end of cap and see if it shows a short, can also test in ohm mode with test lead on each end of cap see if it tests very low. These tests done with tv UNPLUGGED from power of course.

Replace these resistors with 10 Ohm and remove these protective diode assemblies and everything will be fine.
And in vain they bought both the motherboard and t-con.
It's been the exact same problem for a while now. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=118195

I unplugged the panel boards from the T-CON and tested all of the caps. Most were over 100kohms, some many megohms, one on each board was 770 ohms - same cap on each board. Does that sound right?

Lotas, thanks for this info. I haven't seen this info yet so I really appreciate you sharing it. I'll have to search for replacement 10 ohm resistors on dead laptops or something and give this a try. No caffeine for me that morning…

Should I put the extra mainboard and T-CON boards on the classifieds here or just put them back on eBay?

To begin with, carefully remove the diode assemblies (even all 4 pieces are possible), without damaging the board or cables, then look for resistors.

I removed the 2 diodes that you marked in the pictures and it is working correctly now.

Thanks so much for your help!

                      Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                      by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

                      by gpo23
                      Hello,

                      i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

                      Thank you for your help

Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

                      by viking509
I recently replaced the led backlights with LB65041 LED Backlight Strips and after putting it back together the backlights work but there are only colored vertical lines only in the center of the tv. I can see the Netflix logo (jumbled) after a minute or less the screen went dark. When I turned it on again the lines were back. Then I replaced the t-con board but the same vertical lines in the picture. My question is what is my next step? Could it be a source tab bond issue? A buffer board issue? Could I have loosened a connection to the panel when replacing the backlights? Should I replace the...

Vertical Lines on Half of LCD Display
                      by rfxcasey
I have an Siemens HMI with vertical lines on half of the screen. These lines aren't scrambled garbage but rather very regular in pattern and color. I have replaced the LCD with a new one and still the problem persists. I'm wondering if this isn't indicative of a bad video process chip or video memory? Any help would be appreciated. The cable appears to be OK but one pin on the header is unpopulated, though there isn't any loose wire to suggest one broke off or popped out of the connector. In the picture below where the connector is busted out of the side, I did that with my small screw driver...
