    Antec EA 380

    C403 - 10V-1000 - 8mm
    C406 - 10V-1000 - 8mm
    C503 - 16V-1000 - 8mm
    C504 - 16V-1000 - 8mm
    All OST.
    I'm curious about why the two 10V.

    All the 16V I find are 10mm, I sat some 10mm in there but not enough room. 504 and 403 against each other really killed the fudge factor. TC has some 8mm MBZ but I'm losing interest in this because of the 8mm sized caps. I have some 10‘s on hand that I can't use.
    My plan was to replace all with 16V- 10mm.

    The OST 8mm cap leads didn't match the holes in the board so they did some bending for fitment. The holes match 10mm cap leads. Seems kludge to me, maybe not.
    So at the moment I feel a little put off with this power supply. I may continue but not sure. I still want to know about those two 10V caps.

    A couple of possibilities come to mind. C403, C406 may be for a lower voltage output than C503, C504. Or they may be the second stage in a Pi filter (note the inductors in the background), so allowing for surge voltage is not an issue.

    The other thing, almost not worth mentioning, is you put a question about a power supply in the computer display section.

        Lower ESR and higher ripple than the 6.3v in the same diameter.

          You should be able to wedge some 10mm in there with a bit of lead bending.
          Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

            I've re-capped an EA380 with 10mm Panny FC caps by mounting them slightly off the PCB. It works fine.
            I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

            No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

              ^^^ That's the answer less the explanation.

              Within a series a cap's ESR/Ripple is dependent on the can's size. - Diameter and Length.
              The bigger the can is the better it's ESR and Ripple will be. [I said within a given series.]
              An 8mm 10v will normally be longer than an 8mm 6.3v in the same series and so will have better ESR and Ripple.

              So, they are sourcing parts to build a PSU and they want better ESR/Ripple in a 8mm position on 3.3v or 5v.
              There are two ways to do it.
              - Buy a better brand or series of 6.3v caps. [More costly.]
              - Buy the 10v version of a lesser brand/series. [Less costly.]

              You will see this a lot on motherboards.
              There is no voltage on a motherboard that needs 10v caps yet they are common.

                I've had to do this with all of my EA-380 too, seem to work OK.
