there you go! The 12V rail is shorted. Trace it back to the diodes mounted on the heat sink. These have 3 legs. Test the middle leg (negative) to the 2 outer legs (positive) with your multi meter in diode mode. If you find a diode shorted, reverse the leads, put the positive probe on the middle pin and probe the 2 outer pins with the negative probe. If you find something questionable, ALWAYS take it out and test the component out of circuit.
Remember, to pull up the spec sheet of the diode on the internet. You have to know the voltage drop. Schottky diodes have a very low voltage drop @ around 0.2V compared to a regular diode (0.5 to 0.7V)

Yes, there is a blue wire and -12v is written on the printed circuit boardO.k. That means the PFC on the Primary boosting the voltage is working. Is the blue wire -12V there? Basically you have it narrowed down that one of these 3 voltage rails is bad. Check the diodes for 5v, 3.3v and 12v, maybe one is shorted?
You can check the transformers input and output winding's. If they measure an open (OL) than it is bad.Leave a comment:

I wait for your instructionsWell, we don't know why it doesn't turn on. Question is: Is a problem with the PFC? Is it a problem with a shorted voltage rail on the secondary (3.3,5,12,25V and -12V). Is it a bad -12V regulator... we don't know. I'd check the PFC first.
ATX power supplies have always ONE stby voltage rail that is always on. Then there is an soft on / off pin has either stby voltage on it and it needs to be pulled to GND or it has no voltage on it and needs to be pulled high to STBY. A switching power supply has a primary (high voltage, remember the 450V cap) side and you have to be careful, as you are connected to power mains. Your GND reference point for the multi meter is the negative post on the 450V main filter capacitor. The same PSU has also a secondary (low voltage) side. Your GND reference point for it is on the GND point on the PSU or chassis GND. If you look on the back side of the PSU you can clearly see where the primary / secondary line is. Hope this helps for a quick start.
If you plug in the PSU, you should see roughly 320V or so on the 450V capacitor, since it isn't turned on (yet). Once the PSU is turned on, the power factor correction circuit will boost that 320VDC to like 400VDC. That is how you know if the PFC is working or not. After all, if the PFC isn't working, there wont be any 25vsb.
Now put your negative probe on one of the black wires on the secondary low voltage side of the power supply and probe with your positive probe all the other color wires. Note what these wires do (like 25vsb, 5V, sense etc.) and the corresponding voltage you had measured. Post it here and then go further.Leave a comment:

first i would force it on without being hooked up to the computer.
if you plug it in, you should only have STBY voltage (always on).
if you force the PSU on, well everything should be on. if not, look what DCV you have on the 450V capacitors. Look if any of them voltage rails on the secondary is shorted.Leave a comment:

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time... -

I have replaced the Mosfets Q1820 and Q1821 ( FDPF7N50U) which were both blown and the fuse FM802S. The schematic for this power supply that is attached doesn't relate to this power supply as the driving transistors and diodes are D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 are nowhere on the schematic!
Does anyone know what the components for D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 should be? I ask as I did change the Mosfets... -
by JimBanvilleThe sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...-
