    Ugh...logisys

The 350W Rosewill in my spare 3200+ computer my brother uses at the lan party (I wish he would just build his own already, that ECS with OST's needs to rest,) is starting to concern me. Its really chugging out hot air, it always runs the fan at 100%, but its never been this hot before. At least it keeps that part of the room warm, but still, its a trooper to still be running after 3 years, and it came free with a $25 dollar case.

Anyways, a guy at the lan party upgraded his power supply from a logisys 575W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170017) to a 750W PC P+C silencer. I know this logisys is a trooper, too. It ran dual 8800GTS's in SLI without 'sploding somehow. It has dual 80mm fans (don't know how much they actually move,) Now, I'm wondering, should I buy it from this guy for about 20 bucks, or get this Astec 425W off ebay to replace the 500W rosewill in my server, and replace the 350W rosewill with the 500W rosewill from the server?

I see the UL logo but no proper UL Number on that Logysis. Might not be a bad PSU but it's very likely it will have crapcaps.

I wouldn't accept the deal: Astec is a known brand, Logisys is thought to be a Youngyear subbrand like Aspire or Levicom.
If you motherboard is 5 V based, can you source an old Fortron or an Enermax Noisetaker EG425?

I don't know, this Astec is out of a IBM, has 100% UCC caps, APFC, 92mm San Ace fan.

Anyways, I went to the guy's house again to look at the power supply. It has two main caps by Jenpo, and the secondaries are Jamicon and Fujiyuu. It is also really only a 450W psu, and 575W max, though I highly doubt it is capable of 450W. Well, looks like a bestec has a edge on it, my 250W bestec pulled from a emachine has Panisonic Primaries and Jamicon and Teapo secondaries.

I'd go with the Astec, even though I prefer PPFC to APFC.

Rosewill Tokamak 1200w blown mosfet 5R199P
            by nubie
            Rosewill 1200w blown APFC? Mosfet.

I got this with a blown fuse. Replaced fuse and the APFC mosfet blew.

Removed the mosfet and got 5VSB, then when I connected PWON to ground the Fuse blew again.

So do I need to replace the mosfet? Or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.

According to a review of the 1500w unit there is an option for 4 transistors instead of 3 and they are different: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...su,4823-3.html

DELL XPS 9520 No 3rd party SSDs?
            by abajor
So we have a DELL XPS 9520 a woman broke her screen and needed an immediate replacement so we removed bitlocker and put her Drive in an Asus TUF gaming laptop, everything is hunky dory.
We happen to have another DELL XPS 9500 screen that is compatible with the 9520, so tried installing new SSD's and doing a clean windows 11 install.
During formatting the installer can't find the Intel drivers for the nvme controller?

I spend a long time figuring out how to extract the drivers from the official dell installer downloads tried different versions, was able to load the drivers...

Need help to replace burned resistor in 350w atx psu
            by mikey5791
            Hi to all forum members,

Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...

Intel iMacs, 3rd party SSD failures and Fusion setups

I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...
