Did the motherboard burn the PSU?

    Dear technicians,
I have got an old Asus ATX motherboard and an old ATX PSU.
I used the PSU with other motherboards and it worked fine.
then, I connected the PSU to the mentioned Asus motherboard. then the motherboard turned on but I smelled burning plastics from my PSU. and the PSU failed.
After that, when I connect the PSU to other healthy motherboards, it does not work.
I measured the ATX power pins on the mentioned Asus motherboard. no pin was shorted to ground. offcourse, there might be some short on other parts of the Asus motherboard. but not on the power pins.
    Now I have a question.
How can an ATX motherboard without short on its power socket, burn the PSU?

it cant, it was just coincidence.

open the psu and look for somethingg burned.
if your eye's cant find it, your nose usually can.

Re: Did the motherboard burn the PSU?

before I connect the PSU, I knew the Asus motherboard was faulty.
but I did not know it will burn the PSU.
How could I check the motherboard to discover it will burn the PSU?

Re: Did the motherboard burn the PSU?

a junk psu without proper working ovp, overload or short circuit protection can fry itself if whatever its connected to is shorted. u could have some other connected component, ram, gpu, cpu etc. that is shorted and that fried the psu by overloading it.

there is no easy way to check if a mobo will burn a psu. what u can only do is to NOT use a junk psu. a proper working branded psu will shut itself off to protect itself from overload.

Had the same thought as stj; Coincidence ... My laptop stopped when my baby cousin touched it ... My PSU exploded when my cat hit the desk three weeks ago !! why it didn't explode immediately ? , i don't know ...or i don't know if my mother played her favorite game , but i think she's the guilty one ...Hundreds of thousands of weird unbelievable reasons , but , something will go faulty one day , for a reason or not ...

              Hey there people
While working on my Acer Aspire with the OS failing to load, I encountered a motherboard number of DA0ZHQMB6E 0 REV: E. I was getting nowhere fast or slow, for that matter.
This is what I tried, but not in any order.

On Google AND YouTube, I was getting mixed messages, try this and try that, but when you cross reference the advice it is either the wrong model (even though you enter the correct search term) a YouTube case in point, with the search term "how to...

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
              by glovecaps
              Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 won't run on battery after motherboard replacement
              by dhenion
I'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.

              The original board was:
              ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A

              The replacement board is:
              ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)

It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...

Embedded Controller issues, living an absolute H*LL with my ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED
              by GardevoirForEver
I've been dealing with so many complications for months, trying to find and then fix the root cause of the issue I really need help and I have to solve this on my own (Going to Asus headquarters isn't an option for me. First, because I'm very stubborn and want to insist that I can fix this sort-of-myself somehow, and second, the location is too far away for me anyway).

Right now I'm desperate trying to put an end to this nightmare, but OK, I'll do my best to be somewhat brief in explaining and relating the entire situation and context.
