Dell / Newton NPS-250DB Power Supply

I have a Dimension 8100 on the bench where the customer wants to replace the power supply before it fails. Working fine right now.

This one has propriety 16-pin connectors that I've not seen before. I've ID'd the PSU as E173738, Newton NPS-250DB. There is a suggestion replacement in the FSP400-60-PFB-M unit at $82.

    1) Can anybody describe the proprietary conntors?
    2) Is a Newton a candidate for recapping, or should it be replaced?

    Thanks in advance..

Look at pinouts.ru, it's the reference about stange or proprietary pin layouts. The Dimension 8100 ATX connector is described here.

Newton is a PSU company that is owned by Delta electronics if I remember correctly. Their PSUs are very good in terms of quality and PSU build.
I usually buy Newton made PSUs that come from faulty Dell systems and they were perfectly, though they could have done a better job with the caps they chose for the unit. All the caps in my Newton units are made by Ltec, but none are bad. Though it would be a great candidate for a recap.

Zandrax, many thanks. I printed that page to a PDF for my library.

My thoughts were about getting a more standard PSU, and using the old16 pin connector with the AT12 wiring. The Blue/White 3.3v line appears to be a stumbling block.

I have two of these PSU, both working. Perhaps it would be a better idea to recap them both, and leave them in service?

Thanks for that one also. I found the older Dell are non-standard for their pinouts. Damn annoying, having to use factory proprietary junk.

Newton makes very good PSUs and if it says 250 watts it IS 250 watts.

Can usually make something work by rearranging the pins in the plastic connector.

It sounds like recapping is a better option than preemptive replacement on this one.

I'll haul the PSU out of the scrap 8100 I have in the bin and recap it first. Then I can swap it into the client machine without downtime, then recap that one for a spare. I have a few 8100 systems in service, so a recapped spare is a good thing.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                  by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
