I thought you are running the existing one at 3KHz, how did you come up with 921 Hz. That is very low, your inductor is going to be big.

    my frequency is 921 Hz
    target output voltage is 220V
    target output power = 10W

    Any ideas ?

    what is you oscillator frequency?
what is your target output voltage?
what is your target output power?

Thanks for the chip link, but that would be another month to wait, I'll buy it later on, but I'm interested to find a way to increase amperage for 555, this is what I have on my hand..
    Yes I have osciloscope...
    I got 220V RL=7K Duty cycle 99.44% L = 420uH....I think I can't go higher..
I've tried with 700uH and it dropped to Vo = 24V any other clues ?

I'm pretty sure there's a way to get better current with this 555 than replacing the chip with MC34063.
I'm learning one chip to other, easier for me..

I specifically searched on the Australian eBay, ordered them by cheapest price + shipping, and only from (within) Australia. It's not rocket science.

I'm really sorry, but you have no excuse

How did you come up with the 13A output figure, i wonder?
Let me guess - because you just saw the recommended transistor current rating, but have no real idea how a boost converter works...

PS: Do you even have an oscilloscope?

    that's the circuit I've been playing now...185V at RL = 5K ...
    Any suggestions for modification ?
    Cheers

I'm happy with UC384X even with transistor, only a comparison with maxim product..
yes it's not stable on 8W I reckon...but it has a power to light up 8W already, that's a progress for me...
now under test RL = 5K, the output is 185V on 380uH...I increase the inductor from the previous experiment but there's no increase on Vo ...I got no idea why now ?
It's not ideal inductor condition, since I made a series some small inductors...
    @Khron thanks for the shematic,
    I love this design,

Is it really more than 13A on the output ? Interested..I reckon that transistor has something to do with this current boost..
Can I replace the PWM with 555 ? I don't have the PWM chip on the schematic now..

I saw the video, it does not look like it is lighting up at full 8W.

Is the UC384x range, or the MC34063 not good enough for you anymore?

Anyway, do you use any chips from maxim or others for boost step up application ? Do you have any suggestions ?

Good spec, but QFN package is a trouble to be tested on breadboard...

Ok, thanks again for the information, it's neon 8W bulb, please have a look on the video above...I chuck in DC voltage to another SMPS input...but that's ok I love learning and experimenting, have a good sunday..

Read this about inductor, the saturation is not dues to higher inductance. Look at the spec of the inductor you are using.

    BTW, 8W incandescent?

last test was 8W bulb, so roughly with about 10W input.. my inductor 380uH...I tried 700uH it's saturated and fall down to 24V output..

    input voltage I measured 11.4V , I haven't measured current, probably about 500mA-800mA

So it takes close to 12W of input power and you are getting about 5W of output.
Use the calculator as a guide and play with freq, inductance, etc. to improve it.

Do you want to know efficiency ? it's less than 1A since my 1A fuse still survives

No, I am trying to find out how much your circuit is drawing the current from the 12V supply Voltage when you have load at the output of your boost converter.
Basically trying to figuring what you put in and what you get out.

no it not in a full load for the input, I try with low rate amperage inductor and it's still cool, it means there's no heat dissipated from inductor.
Only FET is doing the job properly, but still below the maximum limit.

It works, have a look :

needs bigger inductor to increase power...probably 1mH is the limit for the stability on the loop...
Any idea for a better feedback circuit than voltage divider ?

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

    Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue

    Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
    by PantherDave
    Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

I was working on this CNC machine today found no keyboard functioning no control relay powering on
The screen powered on and was giving an operation error but the manual was not very clear about what the error exactly was but with a little bit of troubleshooting and finding out that the control relays not powering on and no keyboard functions we narrowed down to this one switching power supply which of course does not have any indicator LED light they are on the keyboard interface/relay controller board

Found shorted diodes on main controller relays there are 3 of them that...

Asus Z97-a power cycle, no boot no cpu voltage
    by meraklinetx
Hello, I have an asus Z97-A motherboard and it doesn't start which was working properly before, the problem isn't related by ram, ram slots or psu (I changed all and nothing work), the exact problem is when you switch it on , it starts and after 1 seconds (no boot or display picture) it's off and then on cycle continuously until you power it off from psu also it's responding to the power switch for turning it off if you keep pressing it 3 or 4 seconds (power button pin has 3.3v) , also when you start it with eatx 12v socket connected this is happening (power cycle also all voltages are resetting...
