    Replacing SBL1040 and FR302 with 1N5407 3A ?

    Guys,

Is it possible for me replacing SBL1040 and FR302 with 1N5407 3A ?
I have some 1N5407 on my hand..

    Thanks

    maximum recovery time for FR302 is 150ns and 1N5407 = 1500ns...10x slower...
but is it enough for switching speed of the supply ?

      What's the switching frequency ?

I think I did answered that already in the other thread. If there is a fast recovery diode in there you need to replace it as such. A normal rectifier diode can't keep up with the pace. You just cant replace the SBL1040 (Schottky) or the FR302 (fast switching) with a 1N5407 and think all is ok. The diodes will blow.

            UF5408 may work

so it will not work on 1N5407 ? or it works ?

No...It will not work....the 1N5407 will overheat and burn almost immediately....CapLeaker is 100% correct.....the FR302 could probably be replaced by the UF5408 as stj suggested...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
                    by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

                    After all of...

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really

These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...

How does this switching PS work ?
                    by michel74
                    Hi everyone,

Yes ! How does this switching PS works ? :-)
I understand (not in deep, of course) the switching PS principle; typically, I'd expect to get a VCC just to "feed up" the STR or the Switching regulator, but I cannot figure how this VCC is "created" (on a TV switching PSU, I often see some cascaded resistors, but here, I believe that one of the transformer input should make the permanent VCC, but I cannot figure where )
Thanks for your help. I already wrote some explanation of what I was having and did some measurements here ...
