    SMPS P/S Thyristor Question

I have a power supply with a blown fuse. I did some testing and found a thyristor that measures 23 ohms from cathode to gate. I know anode to cathode is supposed to be open , but is 23 ohms normal for a thyristor. I have never tested one before. See data sheet below.

Sort of answering your on question. Also are you using diode test on your meter ?

I used the diode function and resistance.

No worries mate, you should check the driver circuit and other related devices in that area as it could have damaged something else when it blew.

yeah I tested all the diodes/transistors/mosfets and all measured good.

is it directly across the output and ground?

                  Re: SMPS P/S Thyristor Question

Isn't there some resistor across it? There are often some near these semiconductors. Better remove it and check out of circuit.

You should at least show us good clear pictures of the board and also the location where this SCR is and how it is being used in the circuit so we do not have to guess how it is being used.

                      CMOS battery drains quickly
                      by magistertc
This problem is based on my experience with an ASUS Z390 Prime motherboard, but it appears to affect other motherboards
as well Install a new CMOS battery, configure computer, turn off computer and disconnect from AC power or switch off SMPS.
Return somewhat later and find that battery is drained, dead, or weak. Clock is wrong, other settings lost, etc.

Examine the power 'sharing' circuit -- when the ATX 3V supply is on, the computer will function normally. The computer is also
configured to support the RTC and some volatile RAM (when SMPS is on). What you may...

                      by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
                      by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

                      Troubleshooting Cramer RV power supply
                      by madan1
                      Good day.
I'm currently on a vacation and a friend from the camp site asked me to check why his camper power supply does not charge the batteries when hooked to the mains.
The PSU is cramer and from what I've found the same mainboard is used in both cbc-b7 and bcc-b7. The control module/interface panel is Cramer D-5750.
So what I've found so far - the transformer seems to be working fine and the board has no visually damaged components. I tested most of the diodes and transistors with a multimeter (the only tool I got here) and they read fine.
                      The two thyristors have been...

7 segment LED displays: Common cathode vs. common anode
                      by japlytic
With 7 segment LED displays, are common cathode units more common than common anode units?
From what I see, common cathode units have simpler drive circuitry.
