    SMD cap value needed

    hi forum,

can any one help me find the value of a large flat SMD cap

it reads these numbers on the cap from top down

Can we see the pictures of the cap?

        that's an inductor.

          oh ok,

do you know how to find the values?
I think i need to match up the inductance, current ratings and resistance to replace it.

i would guess the 249 means Inductance 2.4µH

why do you need to replace it?
if you say it's shorted i'm going to LOL

I figure the R36 denotes 0.36uH for high-current low profile (flat) inductors.
You would need the manufacturer's name to nail the part i.e series 249. My guess H76 is the date code/plant ID. Beyond this, look to the app note for the IC driving this inductor, for inductor part numbers.
These parts don't fail unless cracked/chipped or overheated.

shorted. reading very, very small resistance, less than an ohm

                it got wet

it's supposed to look like that - it's a coil of copper wire!

it shorts out the board when on, when off the board is not shorted

guess it could be something else beyond its circuit then. cant seem to see anything broken

probably one of the small smd caps behind it then

if it's off the board, meter the resistance between the pcb pads.
also, what's the resistance of the inductor off-board?

                        inductor is 0.8,

im guessing one of the tiny smd caps is the short now.

if it's part of a switching psu circuit then there may be a diode involved.

Probably may have shorted SEMI on the board.

PC motherboard: there is nothing visually damaged,

a block of caps after the inductor leading to the cpu is still shorted when i pull the inductor off.

and if I also pull the cpu off, the rest of the board is not shorted, so i see the area where the short should be at.

                              Might be several shorts

I guess I should have checked that earlier before posting, Really, I cant think too fast, it takes me time to think everything thoroughly and its hard to focus around here

thanks for teaching me what an inductor is by the way, i thought it was a tantalum cap at first, but now i see those on the bottom. *not very big ones*
but this is making sense now

Hi all guys, I need your help. On a HP 440 G2 - LA-B181P laptop I was changing the speakers and the pc worked fine everything ok.
After closing it all with all the screws I realized that it would no longer turn on. I opened it and found that the flat cable of the LCD was shorted. I ordered a new flat but the motherboard still won't turn on, as soon as I connect the power supply the connector LED always flashes and the power button stays on.
I tried to check the voltages and the 3v and 5v are there, on the battery pin (with no battery connected) I have about 2v.
                                I tried to...

So the history of this machine was it had been in a bag where a bottle of water leaked. Presented as dead about a month ago, corrosion was mainly around the battery connector and it's sub-PCB. Some corrosion was noted on the board around UC300, CC325, CW1C7, CW1C8. That was it really.

Now without battery connected, USB-C will stay at 5V and cycle between 0 and 120ma. PPBUS_AON is cycling between 0 to 12.3V. If battery is connected,...

Hello, so I replaced a soc SRK08 (i3-1115G4) on a hp 14-dq because the 1.8v power supply was shorted and the pch was gone and I installed a SRK05 (i5-1135G7) that I had at hand. And I was wondering if a clean me region is needed after replacing the chip, I usually do this on laptops with separated pch, but with a soc (cpu and pch together) I have no idea. Normally I wouldn't ask this, but I have only the motherboard, no screen nor the adapter, and after I fix this I have to send it to another region so if someone knows about this, some help would be apreciated.
