Re: SMD cap value needed
PC motherboard: there is nothing visually damaged,
a block of caps after the inductor leading to the cpu is still shorted when i pull the inductor off.
and if I also pull the cpu off, the rest of the board is not shorted, so i see the area where the short should be at.
Might be several shorts
I guess I should have checked that earlier before posting, Really, I cant think too fast, it takes me time to think everything thoroughly and its hard to focus around here
thanks for teaching...

Re: SMD cap value needed
inductor is 0.8,
im guessing one of the tiny smd caps is the short now....

Re: SMD cap value needed
it shorts out the board when on, when off the board is not shorted
guess it could be something else beyond its circuit then. cant seem to see anything broken
probably one of the small smd caps behind it then...Last edited by techbrat; 02-22-2016, 09:28 PM.

Re: SMD cap value needed
shorted. reading very, very small resistance, less than an ohm
it got wetLast edited by techbrat; 02-22-2016, 08:56 PM.

Re: SMD cap value needed
oh ok,
do you know how to find the values?
I think i need to match up the inductance, current ratings and resistance to replace it.
i would guess the 249 means Inductance 2.4µH...Last edited by techbrat; 02-22-2016, 07:50 PM.

SMD cap value needed
hi forum,
can any one help me find the value of a large flat SMD cap
it reads these numbers on the cap from top down
R36
249
H76

blown resistors? How to identify
blown resistors? How to identify
I blew 3 resistors on a board.
The resistor is gone so I do not see the color code. This is a honeywell pilot part.
I have no idea how to identify the resistor or get a schematic.
Honeywell Part REV. B 97-2815
intermittent pilot

Re: Dell E172fpb
Yes; you are assuming right! I just soldered some caps on a 1000watt power inverter that we overloaded. First time worked like a charm. Its this lcd power board that will not work for me no matter what I do....

Re: Dell E172fpb
well I completely give up on this board.
if anyone wants to repair this power board give me your email or something and I'll mail it to you.
None of the caps are bad and the fuse shows continuity.
the traces lifted around the transistors and its becoming a pain to do this because it did not work. none of the transformers were making any noise or humming. But seriously. after 3 sets of transistor installs. I GIVE UP

Re: Dell E172fpb
if this picture was a little bigger and zoomed in a lot closer. I could see the detailed line tracing!Last edited by techbrat; 11-14-2009, 08:57 PM.

Re: Dell E172fpb
well; I did read all 18 pages. The found one very good picture but it is too small to see all the line tracing. I need a super large image of a good board showing all 4 transistors.
I checked the fuse for continuity and it shows continuity? is that the way the fuse should be tested?

Re: Dell E172fpb
I had this problem on my dell 17" e172fpb too. The monitor would work for 2 seconds showing the bios motherboard booting and then shutoff and the power light turned orange.
replaced all 4 transistors with the oem japan transistors and it blew the transistors immediately
then I went to radio shack and used a NPN tipp 3055
I saw the back-light come on very bright white and shutoff.
Now the back-light does not come on any longer
It never came back on after that! I tried a bunch of NPN...
