I have seen (or rather heard) this quite often with lead-acid batteries. Guess that snap-in caps with big cans can to it too, there is often some room inside between the roll and the top part of the can. If you remember that opened cap from the welder I posted here and it measured fine, the roll inside was moving if you shaked it enough

Please dissect the capacitor and post some pics of it's innards.
I guess a capacitor that has dried up completely inside could rattle around a bit.
Still it should be a minimal difference vs a cap filled with electrolyte...
Never seen or heard of something like this before so I'm curious

    ok some update,
i replace the defective 330uf 400v capacitor (funny when i shake it i can hear moving part inside) by the one i bought (390uf 400v from panasonic) but still no power.
so after some more reading (link given by sgtrock+ one of his post on eevblog) i found out that a TNY278P (IC501) switching regulator could have gone bad, and indeed after close inspection, i realise it has a blown leg,
so i got to change this also.
i also checked the q601\602 mosfet but they are ok

Oh I see, noticed just the 1.75A version.

You can go with 390 just fine, you'll get less stress on PFC silicon and longer hold-up time. But the cheapest seems to be https://www.digikey.ca/product-detai...965-ND/3986864, for 390 https://www.digikey.ca/product-detai...1663-ND/483261

also can someone explain me why it's ok to go with a 390 uf instead of 330, i always read that you should stick with same capacitance when replacing a capacitor

so in the end that $15 with digikey is a bargain versus driving to my local store

ok back to topic, original cap has 1.9 ripple and the one i listed has 1.44 does it matter?
I can get it much cheaper. But its always the same…you dont need it so foten after all, you need it fast, you whatever. So I invest at least 500 bucks in that, than sell 10 pcs here and keep the rest on stock for 5+ years till I sell it out finally…nah, not really. You want, than buy it overpriced.

yes, it's critical in that application.
you need equal or higher ripple.

go look at something like panasonic ED or EE series.

and if you have the height, consider 390uf

    Dear Manthi:
    - I already posted a reply, but it seems to have disappeared. Here we go again. We need clear pictures of the board back and front. Also we need to know what meter, soldering, and desoldering equipment you have. Please search for and read any OCZ PS threads on this blog, and if needed any of the general trouble shooting threads as may be appropriate. You will want to trace the power from the cord on through the large filter cap and report back. Dominic Chen has developed a partial schematic which is just what the doctor ordered, and can be found at https://www.dcddcc.com/proj/oczpsu/.
    Cheers

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
    by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
    http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
    by chth96
I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out...

    ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
    by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

Light that has a bug zapper in bottom section of light fixture the LED light module took a crap but the zapper still works
    by sam_sam_sam
So I got the bright idea to remove the LED light module from the fixture and put it on top of another enclosure and keep using the zapper

The removal of light module was a successful and now I just have to cut a hole in the enclosure and put a power cord that has an on and off switch on it

You are lucky to get about two years of service out of one before the LED module starts flicking and just stops working because it is mounted on an aluminum plate and these are hard to solder on it and it is not worth messing around with them and especially this one because it has line...
