    Synchronization of ringing choke converters

Depending on the design, some ringing choke converters can be synchronized from an external source - a common example were the "live chassis" TV sets, mainly from the 70s to 80s of which the converter was synchronized to TV Horizontal frequency.

I've even seen a ringing choke converter which the synchronization signal is electrically isolated by an overwind on the flyback transformer in a Casper TM5158A monitor (the circuit diagram should show this winding is actually isolated).

Syncrhonizing ringing choke converters should be done with caution, since a frequency which is out of range (or something incorrectly designed) can cause failure of the converter.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    I had a feeling that is so .. :P

Yes, I've seen those, although I've never really understood why this was done. Would the B+ capacitor be charged by the SMPS at the same time as the pulse from the horizontal output stage is discharging it, and would this then minimise the ripple?

Sony BVM1410PM (CRT Monitor) - Coil Choke Replacement
        by FZG
        Hello there, helpful forum people!

I am in the process of fixing an old (ca. 1990) Sony BVM1410PM CRT monitor and need some help. The PSU board of this monitor had failed and I had to replace quite a few capacitors and other parts but now - with my limited knowledge - I ran into a wall.

On the board there is a coil choke that has failed (tested with inductance meter) and I don´t know what to replace it with. According to the device´s service manual the part in question is a "Coil, Choke 525 uH (Sony P/N: 1-459-643-11)".

        The original part...

        MP6908GJ MP6908 Datasheet
        by Document Archive
The MP6908 MP6908GJ is a low-drop diode emulator IC that, when combined with an external switch, replaces Schottky diodes in high-efficiency flyback converters. The MP6908 regulates the forward drop of an external synchronous rectifier (SR) MOSFET to about 40mV, which switches off once the voltage becomes negative.

The MP6908 MP6908GJ can generate its own supply voltage for battery charging applications with potential low output voltage, and at short circuit output condition, or for high-side SR configuration. Programmable ringing detection circuitry prevents the MP6908 from turning...

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
        by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

        Sony 49XD7005 synchronization problem
        by Raulnn
good evening! This tv had a panel synchronization problem that I improved by canceling some outputs from the left lvds of the tcon. but a faint horizontal line still persists, and it doesn't quite look perfect. Is there any trick to know the lines to cancel? I have been reducing the number of canceled lines, but it does not improve. Let's see if anyone helps. thanks in advance.

Rack mounted ECB-A10H plus several buck converters set to different voltages with a 12 and 24 volt switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
Last night when I was doing a Google search on the internet I was searching for empty rack mounted enclosures and I found this website where I found some 5u enclosures for a reasonable price these enclosures are being discontinued so for this reason until I place an order I not going to post the website link because I need to make sure that we are working Saturday if we are going to work Saturday then I will place the order tonight and I will post the website for them

I want to reuse my rack mount cart that I have not been using sense I have do my projects in my new shed but I going...
