Achme 200W Switching Power Supply AM630BS20S Fault

    Hi guys,
I have a Shuttle PC that runs on a Achme 200W Switching Power Supply AM630BS20S. Yesterday i went to turn the pc on and nothing happened, i immediately thought it could be the power supply so tested it with a power supply meter. As i first thought there is no power to any of the board and therefore i decided to remove the metal cover to investigate. Upon opening the cover i noticed that there were three 10v 1000uf capacitors that had blown and therefore i decided to replace them. Whilst replacing these capacitors i noticed that the transformer in the middle of the board had blown the legs off of its body. Luckily i had a replacement transformer from a old identical power supply (the old power supply had a wiring harness short). On the casing of the transformer it was printed TOP222Y which when googled stated that it is a AC to DC transformer! is this correct? After further research i found that the circuit board had a fuse covered in black heat shrink which i have also replaced. Upon doing all this, i hoped it would work but unfortunately there is only a slight humming sound coming from the output side of the board. I am unsure as to where to go from here any help would be much appreciated
    Many Thanks
    Tom

Re: Achme 200W Switching Power Supply AM630BS20S Fault

    it's not a transformer, it's a psu chip.

anyway, top's use a starting capacitor.
you need to find an replace a small capacitor near the top, it will be 10uf to 100uf usually.

it dries up inside and then the top wont start.
    look at the attachement

      Hi stj,
thanks for the quick reply ive just replaced the capacitor i think you mean't it was 10uf and 50v but it still wont fully turn on as small pulses can be heard. any other ideas??
      Many Thanks

small pulses may indicate a short on the output.

if you have a meter, check any diodes to see if any are shorted.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really
          by sam_sam_sam
These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
          by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

          After all of...

DVR recorder Switching power supply Failure
          by sam_sam_sam
When I originally started with my DVR recorder it had 4 individual switching switching power supply’s that were sh*t so I bought a 7 amp 12 volt switching power supply and modified the output plug and put a four output power supply cable to match the input power supply cable inputs

Which worked for over 14 years until a few days ago when the cameras went dark no picture anymore well it turns out now the switching power supply has stopped working altogether now so I have to troubleshoot what has happened to this power supply more later on today what I found

          This...
