UPS - Tripp-Lite OMNIVS1500XL - No power when mains are disconnected

I'm honestly not sure where to go from here.
As the title says: Tripp-Lite OMNIVS1500XL UPS

I've replaced the batteries with 'known-good' out of one of my other UPS's. The unit will turn on, and supply power to the outputs. When mains power is disconnected, the whole unit turns off (along with anything connected to it).

I'm honestly clueless how these actually work.

    FYI: Battery voltage is 13.04 & 12.83

seeing the 2 batteries in different state of charge after being used in series is a red flag.
    did you load test?
this 1500va unit may be more demanding than whatever you borrowed batteries from.
tired batteries are the most common cause.

One is a battery from my FiOS ONT backup, virtually brand new. The other is out of another UPS that works.

The first thing I would do is to safely find a way to measure the batteries in the following three states:

1- stable state - totally disconnected
2- charging/maintaining charge - installed, with mains connected and unit on
3- under load - installed, with mains disconnected and unit on

From here, I would evaluate whether the different sections were operating. With mains available and unit on, there should be a slightly higher voltage than the stable state across the batteries. Under load, a slightly lower voltage, but it should not fall dramatically.

If you need to disassemble the unit to perform the tests, then by all means remove both the mains AND batteries prior to the disassembly. Still be careful - there are often some sizable caps within. Then, do a thorough visual inspection.

Let's start there. Maybe some others will chime in with better troubleshooting instructions.

Check if connection is tight (fastons are not loosy etc.) and there is no cold joint, under tens of amperes the voltage will drop immediatelly. Than crack it open and check fuses. From the voltage it does not seem the unit is even charging, is it? Charged batteries should have 13,4-13,8 V no load.

            Thanks for replies, guys

Turns out I believe one of my "known good" batteries are in fact bad. Even though voltage tests good after being charged by the working UPS, it still won't put out anything under load. Will replace bad battery and try again.

I took batteries out of /another/ UPS and installed in the OMNI1500, and it worked great. The tripp-lite UPSes require good voltage from batteries to turn on, that's why it wouldnt turn on when on the bench.

Probably too soft already. Voltage is not everything, it can be OK while having enormous ESR. It's like with capacitors. Actually it can became a huge capacitor

just had an 08 apc with original batteries on the bench.a load test showed the batts to be marginal.
the unit would flunk its test and chirp annoyingly.
                new ones fixed it.
btw i opened the old ones and added a bit of distilled water to each cell with a syringe.
they then load tested slightly better than the new powersonics i put in!
and even got good resuts on a 1a discharge test with a hobby charger.they were csb grays.
the vision ones from a second unit much newer were totally gone!

                  Hello, all.

                  Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
                  I quickly removed everything...

                  Troubleshooting Cramer RV power supply
                  by madan1
                  Good day.
I'm currently on a vacation and a friend from the camp site asked me to check why his camper power supply does not charge the batteries when hooked to the mains.
The PSU is cramer and from what I've found the same mainboard is used in both cbc-b7 and bcc-b7. The control module/interface panel is Cramer D-5750.
So what I've found so far - the transformer seems to be working fine and the board has no visually damaged components. I tested most of the diodes and transistors with a multimeter (the only tool I got here) and they read fine.
                  The two thyristors have been...

Where do repair shops buy MB replacement batteries?
                  by howardc64
Order my parts from mobilesentrix.com and iPhone batteries have been excellent. Recently got 3x bad A1534 (2015) batteries. All would work until ~30-40+% and drop to < 10% instantly. Typical sign of cheap batteries.

Perhaps the less popular A1534 model's aftermarket batteries are more source limited. Just find it surprising quality from mobilesentrix (usually fairly high quality aftermarket parts) have been so poor.

BTW, this isn't the only defective parts I've had from mobilesentrix. Amongst others including iPad Air touch screen and A1989 touch bar (display was...

Fixing the Charge Circuit of the Batteries of the DC Motor
                  by Astonished
                  Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.

                  Hi all,

sometimes i'm in need of a charger / tester for very small batteries and even if my multimeter doesn't show anything there is a chance that a smart charger helps to revieve. I'm happy with my Keenstone smartcharger and i made a small mod just to use it with smaller batteries like in smartwatches or even camera batteries with special contacts.

Soldering wires on the charger contacts and using needles as probes. I covered both with a shrink hose with integrated solder.
