Mecer lobo 1200 /VR-1200BKS Not switching on

Click image for larger version Name:	20240321_152026.jpg Views:	0 Size:	1.40 MB ID:	3239787 Hello guys,

I'm a TV tech and a friend has asked me to look at his Mecer inverter. I haven't connected a battery but plugged it in to the mains and it does run a lamp. The lcd screen is not illuminating. My friend says he mistakenly connected the battery reverse polarity but the Mecer site says it has reverse polarity protection and that I should check the fuses. The fuses check out ok and there is no sign of damage to most of the component's I could check with my meter. I had removed the transformer and heatsinks to check print underneath. Where do I start? Thanks, Mike

Hi Guys, another customer who does pv work says he's had the identical unit with the same problem which he took to the local Mecer agents and they returned the unit unrepaired, not worth repairing.

This unit looks brand new and with Mecer saying that it has reverse polarity protection and the fact that it should be able to handle power interruptions one would think it would have not failed so prematurely? Like a bulldozer with a glass bumper. Doesn't say much for the brand. Thanks, Mike

check the 5v or 3.3v at the lcd or microcontroller,
if it's missing you can trace it back

Thanks Stj, alot of switching going on and without a better oscilloscope I've decided to RNR the unit. That with the agents also saying it's kaput. Time to upgrade and do a bit of swatting

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
            by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

            After all of...

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really
            by sam_sam_sam
These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...
