    12v PSU Cap Change Suggestions

Hello, I have a Digimate LCD monitor which started going black screen intermittently then after we had a power cut died completely.
It has an external PSU, Wearnes WDS050120. Output is 12v 4.16A. It was sealed but using a subtle blend of psychology and extreme violence I managed to split open its case.

It had one Teapo 1000uf 16v output cap which was bulged and after finding no other obvious faults I replaced it with a cap of the correct value and the PSU came back to life.

It has the following caps, all Teapo A3 105 deg dated 2005:
100uF 400v on the input side
    220uF 25v on input side
    100uF 25v on output side
    2X 1000uF 16v on 12v output

Since Teapo are not good I am looking for suggestions for all the caps please.

I'm not sure of Teapo's reputation on input cap series (i.e. the 400V cap). I'd be inclined to leave the existing part in place, but would defer to the opinions of folk here with more and direct experience. As to the output caps, they're ~8 years old, not ancient, but they've lasted a decent amount of time. I'd replace them all. Start by finding what Teapo series they are, the characteristics of the parts you need to replace - use the same case size and match the impedance and ripple current ratings. My guess would be that you'll be needing parts from the PW, LXZ or FC series (Nichicon, Nippon (or United) Chemicon, and Panasonic, respectively) or HE, KZE or ZL series (Nichicon, Nippon (or United) Chemicon, and Rubycon, respectively). I don't see an "A3" series in Teapo's current online catalog. Stick with Nichicon, Nippon Chemicon, Panasonic or Rubycon.

^"A3" isn't a series from Teapo, it's a batch code, just like "A3-T1/T2/T3" is, along with "C2/3", etc. I would guess that the OP's Teapos were either SYs or SCs, so your suggestions would be a good replacement for them (monitors tend to run hot so PW/LXZ/FC sound like the way to go for me).

Good call, Wester! I'm accustomed to simpler YYWW or WWYY datecodes (sometimes with an extra character that probably denotes the factory) or the more complex and cryptic codes such as STMicro or IR use on their MOSFETs, which include the date, the country, the factory and possibly even which line at the factory. Personally, I wish companies would stick to the 4-digit datecode plus character(s) for the factory; I don't like having to have a unique "decoder ring" for every vendor if you need/want to figure out the age and origin of a part.

Were I doing repair and refurbish work like many of you all do, I'd be tempted to use PW, LXZ or FC for low voltage GP replacement - i.e. wherever a specialty part or lower impedance part are not needed.

My mistake, looks like they are SC's. Sorry guys but thanks for the replies.

Magnum IA.100 Amplifier Switches on, No Output, Possible Input Side fault?
            by flibidy
I have here a Magnum IA.100 which belongs to my parents.

The unit powers on & when the relay kicks in, you get a pop from the speakers (this might sound weird but is usual behavior for this amp). However, you get nothing coming through it from any of the inputs & no pops and crackls from any of the controls.

Because of the sound from the speaker when the amp turns on I have assumed that the output section probably works but I could be wrong & I'm not sure how to test that side of things further.

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
            by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

Onkyo HT-R390 no sound output, video output ok
            by FrancescoV
            Good morning everyone,
I'm trying to repair an onkyo ht-r390 that has no sound output, despite the volume being at maximum, the rest seems to work; the video output signal (coming from an hdmi input) is present, but the audio is absent. Similar situation if I send an audio signal from any input I have no output.

The firmware reported is the following:
            M:1.00/11107BLP
            D:?.??/????????
            O:1.00/11107AL

The DSP firmware given the question marks seems corrupt.

On the BCHDM-0678 - 25140678 - QPWBCHDM0678A0 board the chip that usually seems...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
            by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

I have bought this Zener Diode for this project what size and wattage resistor value do I need to use to get near 50 watt output
I bought this from an eBay seller but unfortunately they only had one

I bought three from Vetco Electronics these are Sylvania ECG5185A 9.1@10w A to Stud what size and watt resistor do I need to use to get near 10 watt output
I bought three of from them to also make battery packs with this output power limit in mind

I want to use this battery pack and turn it into a 9.1 output battery pack output to eliminate using 9 volt battery...
