I think the small transformer is the problem. I check this way voltage and get on primar 40V and secundar 0V.

    Is this OK?

Likely the meter is getting confused, since the voltage on the primary will be a high frequency signal.

Ok, i am lost i dont know what to check? All components is ok, but PSU wont start. Could it be problem with litle transistor on small pcb board?

What voltage (DC) do you get across pins 1 and 2 of the TNY268?

Could you check that diode between the capacitor c9x and the transformer?

I remove the 10 Ohm resistor from the picture and it is faulty. 0 Ohm show on multymeter. i hope this is the main issue.

Interesting. Yes, it looks like it has burnt. But, 0 ohms? I have never heard of a resistor shorting out - EVER!

i replace it, and have a run. When i plug into wall socket, strange hi frequency sound comming out PSU, i check stand by V and it was 5V. I try to turn it on with wire (grenn+black) and for a few seconds fan start to spin, and then BANG!!

I turn it off, and see that R8, R9 and R12 resistor is burned.

Is this failure happen because i use 100uF 450V (big cap) instead of 150uF? or something else is wrong.

Did you have all parts soldered in? What about solder bridges?

I highly doubt the capacitor caused the problem.

yes i solder all part. i dont see any solder bridge. The BANG was very strong. I will try to replace resistors and clean all board. The explosion was in that area near resistors.

                              Check Q1, D4, and Q2 again.

                              In this picture here,
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...9&d=1372797195, there are aome diodes on the bottom left corner of the pcb. Can you test them?

Also, there might be a problem on that daughterboard, so whatever you do, don't fire up the PSU again until we have a good look at it!

Edit: we have pictures in the first page of this thread. And there was discussion about the values of the resistors also.

Edit2: this is why the lightbulb tester is useful, to prevent catastrophic failures like this one...

the main fuse did not burned, so i dont think that the lightbulb would help.

                                I will check these component

BUT, it takes time for it to burn out. In SMPS circuits, usually the fuse isn't fast enough to prevent big failures. It is still included though to break the current flow when there is a sustained short. Or else things could get hot enough to catch fire, etc...

                                    D1 is OK.
Q1 - i am not sure, i think it is OK no shorted pins.
                                    D4 is OK
                                    Q2 is OK

                                    i found value of resistor.

It's possible that D2 is what was causing the shorting. However, could you get a picture of the bottom side of the PSU in that general area?

I think D2 was ok before, i canot remember. I order K3473 FET (Q1) i am not sure that it is ok. Tomorrow i will replace burned resistors and diode. I suspect that Q1 is open all the time. I thinkit is N-channel FET and i am not 100% sure how to test it.

You sure D2 is ok? Test it by using diode test mode on your multimeter. It should measure something in only one direction. If the reading you get is on both ways, or it is lower than 0.2, then the diode is bad.

Could you try removing and then testing that ceramic capacitor under that coil near D2? See if the capacitor is shorted.

New wire for my RDE3340 Whirlpool electric range
                                            by wnlewis
OK. I got the rocker switch figured out thanks to the good advice on this forum.

Now I need to figure out the correct wire to go to the switch from the broiler element and from the oven element.

This is a Whirlpool RDE3340 electric range.

The common wire on the switch appears to have a high temperature insulating material. I am guessing that both the wire to the broiler and the wire to the oven elements also need relatively high temperature insulation. What do I need to look for? The broiler is rated at about 2400 watts.

                                            Where may I find parts...

Need help to replace burned resistor in 350w atx psu
                                            by mikey5791
                                            Hi to all forum members,

Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...

We have an Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK that we use as a secondary laptop. To cut a long story short, around May 2023, while traveling, I connected the laptop into an electrical outlet that was already switched on. Something made a "pfft" sound and the laptop refused to turn on after that. After getting back home, I gave the the laptop for repair to an informal repair person. He replaced the adapter and an internal motherboard part, but after he returned it I noticed that the LCD did not look normal. Essentially, every alternate horizontal line on the screen had gone missing. The laptop was...

Vintage fan repair, copper wire question
                                            by technicalspecialist
I currently have a customer's vintage fan on the work bench to repair.
It uses an induction motor with 4 poles. One of the poles is open.
I couldn't find the break so i cut off the original wire.
I have measured the other poles and the resistance is about 28 ohms per pole and I measured the diameter of the wire with my digital calipers and it is 0.35mm in diameter.

I need to work out how much 0.35mm diameter enamelled copper wire i need to order for it to be 28 ohms. I have used this calculator and it says i need 160.35 metres.

                                            The enamelled copper...

I was Ollie today which is a close out / surplus outlet store I do not go in there to often because you find things that you should not be tempted by but that is a another story

I saw a small space heater that used a wire type of heater element which I been looking for a while but not really hard mind you but when I saw this I grabbed it I going to go back tomorrow and buy the last one that is like the one I bought today because I need the heater element and the ceramic insulators and more of heat element wire because this one has two different wattage settings one 1300 watts ( tap...
