    Thomson JL8006A PVR - shorted +12V rectifier

Some time ago, I got a Thomson JL8006A PVR which could not power on.
Measuring the voltages of the power supply revealed a very low +5V output and no +12V output (mainly consumed by the hard drive); further investigation revealed that D6 (HER504 - 5A, 400V) on the +12V rail has become short-circuited.
Replacing this diode with an MBR745 (7A, 45V in a TO-220 package) and adding a heatsink to it (for extra reliability) fixed this problem - the +5V rectifier is a SBT1060CT, also in a TO-220 package.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    I like those easy fixes.
    Good work.
