Recapped iMac G5 PSU shows no difference jumpered or not

    Hello,
recently my 17" imac G5 stopped working and I've found that some capacitors on it's PSU were either blown or bulged.
I replaced all the capacitors with ones that I've purchased on jimwarholic.com (of course choosing the ones that fit my PSU). but even after replacing them, still no luck and the computer wont turn on, only 1st LED on motherboard lights up, same thing that was before i recapped it.
so i decided to test the different voltages coming from the PSU. While non-jumpered but connected to 220v, I get 5V on wire#9, 5V on #15, and 23.9V on #22 and all others are zero. after jumping wires 15 &16 with a paper clip I still get the same numbers, except for #15 which is jumpered of course, its as if it doesnt turn on.

Could it be that with the capacitors something else went away?
    Is it something replacable?

    Thank you.

also, if I will eventually plan on giving up fixing it by myself. can anyone direct me to a good ebay/something else seller where i can get a new one, or refurbished one that works?
since there are so many different brands of them. acbel, celetronix, delta. which one is better? the one that i have is acbel.

    thanks again

Your location please. You can fill that out under your profile or follow this link:
      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/profil...do=editprofile

      "Additional Information" section at bottom.

Please provide the PSU's Exact Apple part number (case) and the BOARD number located along the edge.

      Example:
      Apple P/N: 661-3350
      Board: API3PC96

Jim's site does -not- address the smaller caps located in the startup section of the PSU. These are often a source of trouble.

Please don't use wire numbers or colors. Relate what voltage is supposed to be where and what you get. See this pinout of the connector:

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...1&postcount=19

      and this description:

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...1&postcount=37

That being said, the voltages you are getting sound correct, but it is failing to start.

Please take a nice, clear, well lit, non-glare photo of the top and bottom of your unit so I can direct you to "points of interest". Sounds like a lot, but it's surprising what can a photo can do for troubleshooting.

Also, there are some 50 threads in here relating to these PSU's in one form or another.
A little work with the search and some intense reading helps.

For starters, on the foil side, look for Q1 and see if it has a hazy band running from top to bottom in the middle. It is a tiny SOT23 package device and near the startup section.

Here's a pic from another thread: Q1 is damaged in this photo. It is in between the yellow circles and just below. Compare it to Q2 which is just to the left of them:

Apple P/N for my PSU is: 614-0365
        Board: API4PC47

Ive attached pictures of the board on both sides.

I have used the search and found many useful posts- helped me with measuring the voltage on the wires for instance. but nothing else that was similar to my case, or that I fully understood (I'm sort of a noob with anything that has to do with stuff that technical).

on one of your previous posts i have read about the problem with the Q1. but after checking all the "little black bars" as i call them. havent found any that were hazed, burned or any such thing.
although looking at it now Q1 does seem a little off color, but nothing as bad as the picture youv'e attached. I'll add a picture of mine, but it doesnt look so good with the image quality.

I've tested resistance on q1 between all three legs and im getting 5k,2k and 3k. so no infinite resistance, which im guessing is good.

If Q1 is infact damaged, will this explain the difficulty in starting up the psu?
also, if i need to replace it, what am i looking for on ebay, 1p transistor, 2n2222a?

p.s. didnt manage to use the built in file attachment. so I'll link to an imgur album if that ok.

Re: Recapped iMac G5 PSU shows no difference jumpered or not

Yes, Q1 is definitely damaged. 2N2222A is the base number. There are variations of that depending on the manufacturer.

Also, recap that startup section. It's only 4 small caps and will save headaches later on.

          >>Ive attached pictures of the board on both sides.<<

I'm only seeing one side, and not the full board. You can back off a bit. A a photo like #1 is well done, but get the whole board end-to-end. It's for locating components and giving directions so I have a visual of the board in my head when helping you.

I uploaded your photos to the forums after I resized them a bit. Attached.

The problem with using outside image hosting sites is, if the site goes away or you leave them, the pictures disappear also. Uploading to the forums preserves them for future users and troubleshooting.

PS: If you have problems reasonably sourcing the transistor and caps, I can post them to you via Air Mail. Let me know.

iMac A1418 - No LED, no power after overvoltage on Ethernet port
              by ryogadan78
Hi guys, I need your help again.
I have this iMac from a customer that shut down during a storm along with all the other devices in the house. In particular, the router, connected via Ethernet to the iMac, caught fire.
When I removed the screen from the iMac to check the status of the LEDs, I noticed that none of them were lit. I had a perfectly compatible and working power supply, so I tried it right away, but the problem remained the same (no LEDs). With the thermal camera, I noticed only a slight warming (32 degrees) of the NCP1605BG chip on the power supply. The rest was completely...

              by Stephen
iMac turns on no drops no cracks, tried to DFU Restore the iMac, logo turns on great! however iMac turns itself off and then restarts to the (!) icon and won't post the restore. Tried thunderbolt 3 cable, tried regular USB C cable and nothing.

this is the message it gives me with the error

Unexpected device state 'DFU' expected 'RestoreOS' (Probably forced into DFU mode externally) [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0xFAE (4014)].

Any thoughts what this could be? I will open it up and repair it but I am not 100% sure since this iMac doesn't...

Philips 58PUS7805/12 showed no picture; after T-Con replacement, shows halo
              by Rauni
Hello, this is my first post on this forum, and my first attempted to repair a TV.

My Philips 58PUS7805/12 stopped working recently. It is not that old, about 5 years. We were on a trip for a few days and when we came back, it had stopped working out of a blue (Perhaps our house was hit by a lightning strike? Don't know.)

Read from a guide that I should test if the screen shows picture with one of the T-Con cables disconnected. Did that, it showed perfect picture (first on left, later on right side).

Read also that we should test what happens if we...
