    Replacement Caps, Elektrolyt vers Foil

    Hallo,
is it advisable to replace an Eletroytic Cap with a Foil Cap?
    I am replacesing E-Caps in a switching PS used in a DBVT-Receiver.
    Next to the 10µf 400V Cap is a 2.2 µf 50V E-Cap RM 5mm located.
Can I exchange this one with a 2.2 uF 50V MK Polyester Foil Cap, or is an E-Cap mandatory?

The switching device is a 8 pin DIP socket 5H02659R (VE25) device.
Does anyone know a replacement device? The unit has 10W.

    Thank You very much.

If possible, could you post a schematic of this unit? Capacitors that we call polyester types use foil and a dialectric rolled up together. These caps are usually found below 1 uF and are used mostly in audio applications due to inductance and dialectric loss at high frequency.

Multi-layer ceramic capacitors might be a good solution for replacing 1 uF and below.
      Is it plugged in?

        Hallo,
sorry, I do not have a schematic.
The IC is a Fairchild KA5H02659RN Power Switch. The capacitor is connected between Pin 2 (GND) and Pin 3 (Vcc). I think, I will stay with an Eletrolytic Capacitor.
Changing the value from 2.2 uF to 3.3 uF should be ok.
The old capacitor is a NIC Components NRSA type.
        Thank You for the answer.

NIC Components is one of the 'good brands', why are you changing it?
