Antec TruePower 2.0 series?

I found a few old posts that suggest that some Antec TruePowers may have suffered from bad caps. But I see that Antec has a newer TruePower 2.0 line of PSUs. Anyone know if those might have bad caps?

They still use Fuhjyyu to my recollection. I think if I was buying one I'd plan on inspecting it after a year or so and replacing any bad caps around that time.

Also the newish smartpower 2.0 antecs have these farkin fuhjyyu caps aswell as a couple of teapo's.

My new computer failed to start and i narrowed it down to the PSU or DFI mainbaord. Mainbaord looks fine at teh component level but fails to start unless nothing is plugged in. The PSU makes a high pitch squel.

I decided to open up the antec (didn't care about warrenty becuase i would only receive another PSU ready to fail)

WhaT i can see is 1 cap with domed top and thats about it, can't really get visual access to see the base of all the caps incase they are leaking. I will recap it and see what happens.

looks like you found the problem!
a recap will likely fix it up.

I thought it was pretty well agreed upon that TEAPO CAP`s in PSU`s were not bad?

yet for some reason Teapo Caps in mobo`s are unaceptable?

Don't be so paranoid. I'm sure the buldged cap was a Fuhjyyu.

And the "for some reason" has been explained a number of times. Teapos don't hold up to the duty of being a motherboard cap.

there's been some report about failed teapo on this forum. but my opinion now is that teapo in psu is probably ok. you may find it fail after long time of use like 2 year or more or in extreme condition (overheat, overload of use etc). i think i know because i have some old psu wth teapo inside and they're still fine even without recapping.

I've been seeing quite a lot of bulging teapos in Fortron (300W and 350W passive PFC/12cm fan, cannot remember the model number) power supplies lately. The bulging ones have always been light-blue colored and usually in 12V line. I have not spotted any failed dark green teapos in a psu...

This may be going (further) off topic but I'll share this anyway. I've only been paying specific attention to cap brands for about year or so, I only knew of Nichicon and Rubycon as being good before hand.

I recently had to swap out an optical drive of one of the systems I built about 5-6 years ago. The MSI board used green Teapo caps nearly exclusively all of which were in good condition.

Teapos can fail without bulging - they go high ESR without any outward symptoms. Sometimes, the rubber plug at the bottom gets pushed out. They tend to fail more often in mobos than PSUs, but it's worth replacing them in either case if there's any suspicion of bad caps.
