I have an iMac G5 ALS 20" AcBel PSU I'm trying to repair. When I first got this computer it would run for a while and then shut down without warning. The computer's motherboard caps looked good and I tried the PSU in a different computer and it did the same thing. So I opened up the PSU and found one bad cap. I went and changed all the cold side caps, but when I put it back it would not power up at all. So I opened up the PSU again and changed out transistor Q1, it tested bad. I put the PSU back in the computer and it started right up. I went to shut it down and when I did LED #2 on the motherboard dimmed but did not go out on shutdown, like the PSU did not turn off completely. Weird I thought. I unplugged it and the replugged it in. This time when I went to restart it I got LED #1 but that's it. It would not start. So I put the PSU back on the bench. I jumped pins 15 and 16, but I only could read standby power, i.e. ~6 volts on pin 9 and ~25 volts on pin 22. I thought maybe ic3845 was bad, so I changed it out but it didn't help. I change a few other P1 transistors, but nothing. OK Has anyone else seen something like this, and might know what to try next? Thanks in advance.

Re: iMac G5 20" Acbel PSU Looking for ideas
What caps did you change? What brand/series did you use? Double check all caps polarity.
You did make a cap map, correct?
What is the API # of the PSU board? The Apple P/N is essentially useless, but it would be nice to put that in here also. They use(d) the same model number with different boards
Shotgunning these supplies is the wrong approach. i.e. - replacing all the parts with the hope you'll eventually get the right one

by ryogadan78Hi guys, I need your help again.
I have this iMac from a customer that shut down during a storm along with all the other devices in the house. In particular, the router, connected via Ethernet to the iMac, caught fire.
When I removed the screen from the iMac to check the status of the LEDs, I noticed that none of them were lit. I had a perfectly compatible and working power supply, so I tried it right away, but the problem remained the same (no LEDs). With the thermal camera, I noticed only a slight warming (32 degrees) of the NCP1605BG chip on the power supply. The rest was completely... -
by StepheniMac turns on no drops no cracks, tried to DFU Restore the iMac, logo turns on great! however iMac turns itself off and then restarts to the (!) icon and won't post the restore. Tried thunderbolt 3 cable, tried regular USB C cable and nothing.
this is the message it gives me with the error
Unexpected device state 'DFU' expected 'RestoreOS' (Probably forced into DFU mode externally) [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0xFAE (4014)].
Any thoughts what this could be? I will open it up and repair it but I am not 100% sure since this iMac doesn't... -

IMac model 2017 intel i5 Completely died after updating the operating system , no lights are on the board. I changed the power supply before just to gain experience, but again the problem has not been solved .. I have done a lot of research about it ...
I checked the SMC U5000 and pp3v3 pp5v. If you look at the schematic, the first light is called le0301 with the abbreviation in pp3v3 S5 circuit. before this I get 12 volts, 5 volts and 3 volts in U7600 well. but after U7600 and before reaching LED1_S5 everything is cut off . I reflowed the u5000 with a temperature... -
by StephenCustomer came in for data recovery, came to find out data is soldered on to this iMac (learn something new everyday) this is a 2020 T2 iMac so I was surprised because the iMac Pro has a T2 chip and it isn’t soldered on. Anyways, the iMac boots to Apple logo and then restarts, before it turns off you hear a quarter fan spin then it repeats itself. I decided to do a DFU revive to restore any hardware firmware issues and it was successful in reviving the device however the issue persists in boot looping. It shows the Apple logo for like 40 seconds then turns off and fan spin rinse repeat. I...

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-
