    liteon ps-3381-ic

I may be crazy but I have need of some help/point in the right direction.. I have some HP ESP-113/liteon ps-3381-ic that I use as bench supplies and they work fine, but I have need to crank them up a little...

I have adjusted the +12v trimmer up to just over 13v and it stops ( the trimmer that is), I'm goign to take that trimmer out and play with other options but I wonder if there is anything else I could do/should worry about?

Going to use it to run (as soon as i get the extra cash for it) an Icom IC7000 Ham radio, and from what I read it really needs a full +13.8v and 22A to get 100% power out. So I need to fight Vdroop.

I have looked for schematics of this PS and have come up with nothing, not sure I could make heads or tails of it if I did at that complexity level..

    Any help is appreciated!!

    Re: liteon ps-3381-ic

You need to modify the feedback loop and overvoltage protection. You will also to rewind the transformer or it'll drop out way before you reach the maximum load.

A better approach would be to simply build one from scratch. Except for control loop compensation it isn't all that hard. But you can do first order compensation (a single capacitor) because a radio transceiver runs at fairly constant power so you do not need fast transient response so you don't need to complicate your life needlessly.

There are a number of people who have built a 13.8v PSU from a computer PSU, but all involved radical mods to the PSU. I have tried to make an adjustable split supply out of a computer PSU and came to the conclusion that it isn't suited for that (a single output supply like in your case would be possible though). It's best to just build one from scratch. Look for my calculator spreadsheet in this forum, even though there's a lot more work to be done on it it currently contains enough data to help you build a two-transistor forward type switching supply.

The more difficult part is actually choosing your controller... If you insist on using your current supply and it is half-bridge and uses a TL494/KA7500 controller chip, you can keep the existing primary, control, and drive components. You will need to remove all outputs you don't need, rewind the transformer and redesign the protection circuit and output coil. The learning curve will be fairly steep, but a bit of ambition and you'll get it done. I'll be here to provide some help.

Not sure I have enough guts and glory to take on a scratch build, Making mods to a current device is more my speed right now.. I've built audio amps before but I had a PCB and I just needed to get the parts and put it all on the board..

any help/ideas in overriding this one to get another drip of juice out of it..

      Thanks!

A few clear, focused pictures would help. Upload them using the attachments function not inline as that would slow down the forum. Crop/resize as close to 2000x2000 as possible, and i'll take a look at it.

I will take some pics tonight.. I have a unit that is dead I will bend back the controler board and try to get some clear shots.. The camera I have here at work is less than steller.

I'm shocked by this PS and its voltage drop on load. my old clunker antec 350 I converted years ago holds better than this after some testing last night with some resistive loads.. or maybe I have just pooched the on I have been messing with

I'm still trying to find a schematic of this thing online but not having any luck, I figured it would make things a little easier.

Here are some attached images I took them at 3MP so its very close to the size you asked for.. if you want really good ones I can take 14MP of specific areas if you want..

This is a dead one so I just bent and broke down the controler board. There is one pic with a note that has the values of the two trim pots that are missing and what those headers do..

Thanks for trying to help me out!!

This is quite a complex board, it's gonna be difficult to mod. I'd look for a "generic" unit instead, 22A @ 13.8v is 303W which is in reach of a generic unit if the cooling is good.

well I'm not going to give up on my quest, I'm starting to look and see if I can just use comps off these to build one.. like the sinks transformer and the 20n60s6's..

Guess I will put my extra test on hold till I can get this out of my head

                Thanks again.

That scheme requires PNP bipolar transistors, so no. Didn't you need 13.8v btw? You can use a LM317 instead of a 7812.

My tech friend made that power supply for 6 12V led spot lights (6*3=18watt max).

It uses LM2576 and the other parts (including heatsink) are from computer power supplies.

You could easily take 13.8V from it adjusting the trimmers. I don't think it can do many watts however!

Th3_uN1Qu3 do you have a good refernce point for the not so smart but willing?

I want to make a basic Switch mode PS 13.8V and able to handle around 50A total for multiple devices at the same time.

I have been trying my best to find things on my own but the more I look the more I get confused on what I need to do..

                        Thanks if you can..

Excuse me if I am doing this wrong but I am new to forums in general but I would like to ask how you made the ps-3381 into a bench power supply I have no idea what the pinouts are on the circuit board. I have made bench power supplies out of ATX PS's before but these are a little different and can get my hands on a lot of them.

Hi, I am also a Ham Radio Operator and use this PSU for my Radio.
This PSU is very clean on the short-wave bands.
But, I can not get the voltage higher then 12,8 volt, if I turn it higher the PSU shuts down, probably the voltage protector circuit is doing that.
How can I switch off this protector circuit?
If we change the fan by one that has less noise the PSU won't start.
                                PSE help!
Greetings from the Netherlands, Ben - PA2OLD

How did you increase voltage to 13.8?
I would be very kind and thankful if you let us know that,
Secondly were you able to get rid of the over current protection problem?

                                    Dear Nouman
If you electronics engineer then easy only +12 volt supply line trace to control board cut print and add 47 ohm resistor now supply reach 13.8 volt and your second question for over current protection is very typical but i,m successfully use as battery charger with maximum 22 amp and no shut down psu if you have this supply in quantity please contact me 03009249826

                                      by Dobrowol
Hello. Ive got problem with Dell Latitude 3520. After power on, no display and fan goes crazy. Standard job, I exported a clean bios from update via pfs extract.

                                      Steps i done and results:

I exported a clean bios from update file via pfs extract.

                                      1. Build clean bios with clean ME, PMC, PCH in flash image tool.
                                      Result: Dead

                                      2. Build clean bios with no changes in ME, new PMC, PCH
                                      Result: Dead

                                      3. Build old bios with clean ME, new PMC, PCH
                                      Result: The same

How to build this little device please for my campervan security

                                      Hi,

You will probably find this funny, and it is, but it's also a project I'd like to take seriously.
I have a campervan and I'd like to avoid thieves to break in it when I am inside it or not.
For this purpose I imagined a simple device that can play a sound based on a vibration detection (in case of intrusion attempt) or by pushing a button manually.

The sound wil be a growling dog, which will deter any thief, thinking there is a big dog inside the van
This sound can be manually triggered by me if I'm inside the van, or played automatically...

                                      NTE Electronics “NTE5251K” Zener Diode 9.1V @ 50W Do-5.5% Want to build a 9.1 output from a 9.6 lipo4 battery pack
                                      by sam_sam_sam
I have bought this Zener Diode for this project what size and wattage resistor value do I need to use to get near 50 watt output
I bought this from an eBay seller but unfortunately they only had one

I bought three from Vetco Electronics these are Sylvania ECG5185A 9.1@10w A to Stud what size and watt resistor do I need to use to get near 10 watt output
I bought three of from them to also make battery packs with this output power limit in mind

I want to use this battery pack and turn it into a 9.1 output battery pack output to eliminate using 9 volt battery...
