Re: DIY Supply.. Trying to learn. any help apreciated..
Well I have made a find: http://www.a-and-t-labs.com/K6_Sw_Amp/index.htm
1KW SMPS 110V mains fed
I just need to figure out how to trim out the voltages I dont need and regulate in 13.8V out only.. they sell the thing as a kit plus they have a BOM and schematic on there site..
if anyone would like to help me gut this down I can do my own board layout and etching..

At least I feel better...

Re: DIY Supply.. Trying to learn. any help apreciated..
Thanks Th3_uN1Qu3 I got your sheet just now and I'm going to take a look at it.. I'm starting to think the science behind all this is going to be a little more than I can grasp but I'm going to make my best swing at it..
Sounds like I better stick to looking at double-ended forward converter for now as if its your favorite I might be better off getting a little help along the way
Lets see how long it takes me to get my head wrapped around this to ask good questions.. I'm also not apposed to taking...

HAM Radio 22A @13.8v
Hobby Charger ~10A
Misc stuff ~5A
Future Amp for HAM ~40A
So total and I know it wont all be on full all the time is ~77A so thats why I was shooting for around 80+ amps
I have tons of old HP server power supplies that I can gut for heatsinks Rectifiers and Schottky diodes, and I'm no stranger to Digikey and Mouser.
I have done through hole and SMD work via kits for projects so I have some solder skills, and I'm not afraid to etch my own boards.....

DIY Supply.. Trying to learn. any help apreciated..
I have started down many paths but what I really want to do it learn what is needed to build a SMPS for all my bench work and HAM radio equipment. I have an old ATX converted that I have used for years but its not going to be able to keep up before too long..
I have read tons of forums and DIY/Homebrew sites but I still end up confused, no one seems to do Switch Mode..
I found a link to http://schmidt-walter.eit.h-da.de/smps_e/smps_e.html and keyed some values in but I dont understand what those transistors are on the Primary side I'm attaching an image...

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
Th3_uN1Qu3 do you have a good refernce point for the not so smart but willing?
I want to make a basic Switch mode PS 13.8V and able to handle around 50A total for multiple devices at the same time.
I have been trying my best to find things on my own but the more I look the more I get confused on what I need to do..
Thanks if you can..

Help with Transformer ID
I have a ton of transformers from old supplies and such, but I have no idea how to ID what they are i.e current capacity and such.
All the markings I see on top of them Google returns nothing. is there a way to ID these things that I have not found or figured out yet?
ThaNks!

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
Could I take this design and sub out the tip2955 with SPP20N60S5??

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
well I'm not going to give up on my quest, I'm starting to look and see if I can just use comps off these to build one.. like the sinks transformer and the 20n60s6's..
Guess I will put my extra test on hold till I can get this out of my head
Thanks again.

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
Here are some attached images I took them at 3MP so its very close to the size you asked for.. if you want really good ones I can take 14MP of specific areas if you want..
This is a dead one so I just bent and broke down the controler board. There is one pic with a note that has the values of the two trim pots that are missing and what those headers do..
Thanks for trying to help me out!!

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
I will take some pics tonight.. I have a unit that is dead I will bend back the controler board and try to get some clear shots.. The camera I have here at work is less than steller.
I'm shocked by this PS and its voltage drop on load. my old clunker antec 350 I converted years ago holds better than this after some testing last night with some resistive loads.. or maybe I have just pooched the on I have been messing with
I'm still trying to find a schematic of this thing online but not having any luck, I figured it would make things...

Re: liteon ps-3381-ic
Not sure I have enough guts and glory to take on a scratch build, Making mods to a current device is more my speed right now.. I've built audio amps before but I had a PCB and I just needed to get the parts and put it all on the board..
any help/ideas in overriding this one to get another drip of juice out of it..
Thanks!

liteon ps-3381-ic
I may be crazy but I have need of some help/point in the right direction.. I have some HP ESP-113/liteon ps-3381-ic that I use as bench supplies and they work fine, but I have need to crank them up a little...
I have adjusted the +12v trimmer up to just over 13v and it stops ( the trimmer that is), I'm goign to take that trimmer out and play with other options but I wonder if there is anything else I could do/should worry about?
Going to use it to run (as soon as i get the extra cash for it) an Icom IC7000 Ham radio, and from what I read it really needs a full +13.8v...

Re: EVGA 7600GT 256mb PCIe Poly Mod
Forgive the possible dumb question but what is the benifit to using/converting to Polly caps? How is the value calculated for the replacement? I notice they are all a little lower capacitance than the original..
Thanks, Trying to learn all I can here and there and This looks interesting.

Well Could not get it to work, even on one I know is good.. Maybe I'm not getting to the right logic return pin...
Here are those images.....

Re: Astec DS550-3
well I left it on my desk at work last night.. I will trot into the lab later and see if I can get it to fire up.. I will also see what kind of images I can get from my blackberry of it, if they are crap I will take some tonight with my good camera..
Thanks!!

Astec DS550-3
I have a Astec DS550-3 that is out of warrenty with SUN and it has had problems but seems to still work.. I got a new replacement for the server and would like to turn this into a bench PS. I have done this a lot on ATX PS's but I'm confused on this what to use as my "turn on" pins.. Here is the pinout of it according to Astec. Any help would be awsome!
Pin Signal Name
PB 1 +12 V Return
PB 2 +12 V Return
PB 3 +12 V Return
PB 4 +12 V
PB 5 +12 V
PB 6 +12 V

A2 +12 V_Current Share

Re: PS for a Cisco AP
It looks like it has internal conditioning and such built in. but I was able to find a power supply today by asking the right people at the right time
