    Has Delta gone downhill?

In a Delta-manufactured power supply for a printer, LTEC units for the primary side LV and the secondary side DC output were used.
You have probably seen LTEC units in later Delta power supplies.
It appears that Delta is going downhill...
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

They've been using LTEC for quite some time now.

      Re: Has Delta gone downhill?

i think it is more of a "delta found a way to make ltec work... well" rather than with most companies "delta has become a bunch of greedy b*stards."

IMHO, LTEC aren't really bad like Fuhjyyu. On par with OST and Teapo, so it's still kind of acceptable for a lower end PSU, Although I still replace anything but the 6 good brands in all my PSUs as a precaution.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

          Re: Has Delta gone downhill?

Delta has been using LTEC since their PSU builds on the original X-box consoles. They also used Taicon too. Remember those the issues with the power jacks that would crack the solder points to the board causing arcing? Those were Delta builds. It was because of inadequate structural support on the jack too tiny plastic clips weren't enough. Microsoft's fix a GFCI .

Later models did away with the stupid clips and used rivets to hold the connector to the board taking the strain off the solder those finally solved the issue.

I still don't know if Micosoft speced this PSU with the flaw or Delta designed it with just voltage, current, and size specs.

This design issue and using DNA1001 and 1002 proprietary ICs with no service info which prevented me from fixing a few soured me on Delta long ago.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

AFAIK, AcBel has also used LTEC for ages, without significant issues. Failed LTECs in PSUs were probably due to inadequate cooling and/or seized fan bearings. I'd rate LTEC on par or better than Jamicon or Teapo.

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
              by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

              Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
              https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...
