Re: new/ used psu suggestions
ran out of dead psu's with sata
every sata plu i have seen was built so if there was no 3.3v wire put in orginally, you couldn't. like it was wired then encased in plastic.
every splitter i have seen was for molex. most were made with thin wire.
i might have 1 SATA plug left. i can't tell because it is in my junk wire bucket at my old house... if i can rustle up 2 or 3 connectors i might be able to splice the acbel (the sata on the ultra is only 20 gauge for 2 plugs).Leave a comment:

Re: new/ used psu suggestions
So you can't solder wires if they are 3.3v?
You can get the connectors from splitter adapters or dead PSUs.
It's really just not that hard.

Re: new/ used psu suggestions
i know that. but without any SATA plugs to solder, i am out of luck. I can't just snap my fingers and watch one magically appear in my hand. i used to have spares but they got used on things that got traded off, etc.
my main concern is future compatibility with future drives... the 3.3v line on the sata will be used someday and the adapters will not work. otherwise i would molex adapter it...Leave a comment:

Seems to me that anyone that can solder caps should be able to solder a wire.

Re: new/ used psu suggestions
cheapest was $40+shipping for a 400w. everything else was either no sata or proprietary mounting.Leave a comment:

Re: new/ used psu suggestions
i might have something:
http://www.hypermicro.com/ProductDes...-ML310-&key=it
i can't tell if it is a 20 or a 20+4 ATX. my research points to 20+4, but i can't tell for sure.
look like a possible winner?Leave a comment:

Re: new/ used psu suggestions
the cheapest i could find for anything not A-power trash was $60. for that much, the HEC compucase Zephyr 750W you had for sale was a bargain.
what scared me was there was more items labeled "4 dell" and was in reality an a-power unit than there were used parts. I wonder how many suckers get screwed by that.
looks like i will have to see if anybody has an extra unit... too bad i am out of SATA connector or else i would buy the acbel and solder in the plugs.Last edited by ratdude747; 12-24-2010, 11:21 PM.Leave a comment:

Delta dps400rb is always a good choice. Plenty of Newton/Delta/dell 400 to 500w units for cheap on fleabay.Leave a comment:

new/ used psu suggestions
I am thinking of upgrading the PSU in my main rig.
Since I might go to sata opticals in addition to the sata hard drives i want to avoid the dorky molex to sata adapters, I want somehting with 4x or more sata plugs
what I have now is a recapped and de-spliced ultra V 550w. I was going to go for an acbel 550w from hypermicro but again, only 2 sata plugs. my specs are:
mobo: intel dp35dp
cpu- PDC 1.8ghz (may someday upgrade to a C2Q)
graphics- 256mb nvidia geforce 7600GT (may upgrade and need the PCIe connection)
no OC (my case is not the kind designed for that kind of cooling)
bling is no concern. Quality is what i want.
I do not want to spend an awful amount on it... tryign to make my christmas $ do what i want...
any suggestions for a good psu past or present?Tags: None

by DynaxSCHi,
I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.
However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA... -

by clabrNeed help to solve some problems with this laptop.
After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)
Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)
Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them... -
by momakaLike the title says, I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA (HP P/N: 513430-002) motherboard out of an HP Pavilion PC. The motherboard hard-locks during POST when it gets to the part of trying to detect the SATA devices *only* if there is a SATA device (be it HDD or optical drive) connected to any of the SATA ports. I cannot enter BIOS or do anything when this occurs. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del cannot restart the system either. In fact, the keyboard locks up too (Num Lock status LED cannot be toggled anymore.). However, if I disconnect everything from the motherboard's SATA ports, the motherboard can POST successfully...
