    Thermaltake Thoughpower 1000w

    Hi all,
Just starting here with some bad news today,
I've got a Thoughpower 1000w that just blown, with some smoke coming out the case. I opened the PSU, and after a good time looking, found nothing burnt ??? After basic testing, the power switch light doesn't turn on, and it is in a general short circuit (testing the two poles from AC IN).

Any help or experiences will be of help.

    Regards,
    Federico

Any marks on the PCB at all? What kind of smell was it?

no marks on the pcb, no clue of what is the cause of the smell, All i know is that there is a short circuit when you test between the two poles on the AC IN. Which are the common components that can go in short circuit ?

You will need to remove the PCB from the PSU case. Look at the back of the PCB. If there was smoke, something was burned.

I took out the PCB, incredibly, there are no signs of burn, in any component.. Never seen something like this, some smoke came out but no signs of anything now.. !

Did the fuse blow? Test the bridge rectifier (or diodes) for shorts.

Is there not a faint whiff of a smell from any of the components?

Bridge rectifier is the four-legged square black device next to the primary caps. The big caps could also be shorted. The three-legged transistors on the heatsink could also be tested for shorts. A photo would be good. Hey, what about the fan? If it's unpluggable try that and retest. It could even be the On-Off rocker switch on the back.
