    Lenovo T440 strange BIOS lock

    Hi everybody,

i have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 (VIVLO NM-A102 main board) with a strange BIOS lock.
It looks like a HD3P (hard drive 3 password) with User+Master password set, except for the "3" where "1" is normal.
But there is no third hard drive at all, there is not even a bay for a second one on this model and this prompt appears even with no hard drive installed at all.
After bypassing the finger print input when booting, the following prompt appears:

First attachement HD3P: without pressing «F1»
Second attachement MasterHD3P: after pressing «F1»

There is no information in the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Did anybody here see this before and do you know what kind of lock this is and how to remove it?
    Attached Files

if you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: Lenovo T440 strange BIOS lock

My ideas up to now what HD3P could be:

    1) the SIM card for the WWAN which i forgot to remove because i did not expect one to be there (??? have to check again) with User PWD = PIN and Master PWD = PUK (crazy idea...)

    2) the hard drive in a docking station (were there ever docking stations with integrated drives for this model made by Lenovo? I don't think so)
(But why then does the PWD persist if the disk is removed?)

    3) Some SD card which is not inserted but a faulty switch in the slot indicates to the laptop that one is there and this card is treated as hard drive 3 (??? unlikely but i have to check....)

    4) somebody entered indeed a HD password for HDD2 (there are HDD0, HDD1 and HDD2 listed in the BIOS though only one can be installed). If this was possible then it is a serious flaw made by Lenovo

    5) the BIOS is just corrupted just like lenovo_autopatcher said:

    $ bash autopatch.sh T440origBIOS
Using UEFIReplace to inject DXE drivers...
T440origBIOS is corrupted or does not contain a correct dump.
    There was an error... Aborting.

Note: there is no general corruption as i can read out the BIOS version GRRM05WW 9.5.15.1730 at address 0F00h with a hex editor as i understand:

    0000 0F00 GRRM05WWÿ9.5.15.1730ÿ8MBÿSIGNEDÿ

In this case: (i'm a little bit scared...) is there a known risk to brick the laptop (render it unusable) by installing for example the patched BIOS from Maxpower3 ?

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 - Hard Disk not recognized in BIOS
      by mkdj
      Dear all,

I have recently fixed a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15 ALC6 that was not booting due to a BIOS issue. After flashing the BIOS, the laptop boots up, but hard disk is not recognized in BIOS. Is says "Hard Disk : Not Installed". I have tried with 2 different drives (one that I know is working on another laptop) but I get the same result. I do not know if disks were recognized before I got the laptop and fix it, but I don't see any reason why not. I can boot on USB though.

Here the steps I have taken to fix the laptop:

Summary of BIOS Whitelist Removal Problem

      Problem:
I am attempting to remove the WWAN card whitelist from my Lenovo ThinkPad T560.
      Initial Findings:
      • My current BIOS version is N1KET58W (1.45).
      • I have a CH341A programmer and have successfully created two full backups of my BIOS.
      • I have the ability to use command-line tools on a Linux machine.
      Troubleshooting Steps & Conclusions:
      • I attempted to use several automated and manual patching methods on my N1KET58W (1.45) BIOS, including using hex strings. These attempts all failed.
      • I concluded that the

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
      by Wahaz
      Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 Desktop - Corrupt BIOS
      by grimacelord
      Hello there.

I am working on a Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 desktop that currently has a corrupt BIOS and I have been unsuccessful thus far in trying to fix it myself.

      History:

      1. This computer came to me initially with an error message that said "BiInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000001" or "0135 fan error". It would always be one of the two errors. It should be noted that when it produced the fan error, there was no physical problem with the fans. They were all spinning just fine.

I searched for this error online and discovered...

Need Clean BIOS/EC Bin File for Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 11e - Stuck with 0275 Error CMS

      Hello everyone,

I am attempting a repair on a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 11e that is currently stuck at boot with the error: "0275 error CMS" even after setup new bios battery and will not allow me to enter the BIOS/Setup.

This is a critical issue that I believe requires flashing the BIOS chip directly using a programmer (e.g., CH341A/RT809H), as standard software updates or resets are not possible.

I have opened the laptop and identified the main BIOS chip...
