    Sony VPCEB1E0E (PCG-71312M) BIOS

    Hi

    I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB1E0E (PCG-71312M) with a strange issue.

The laptop turns on and start loading but after about 20 seconds the fan starts spinning as full speed and then it shuts off. It even shuts off when the HDD is removed and left for 20 seconds in the BIOS setup.

I already replaced the BD82HM55 SLGZS chip but issue persists.
Reflashed BIOS from online dumps did not help either.

    Any clues please?

    BIOS info:

    BIOS version: R0300Y8
    EC version: K0300Y8
    ME version: 6.0.3.1195

    Motherboard info:

    Motherboard: MBX-223 M960 (1P-009CJ01-6011)
    Chipset: BD82HM55 SLGZS
    EC: Nuvoton NPCE783LA0DX

    Thanks

    Re: Sony VPCEB1E0E (PCG-71312M)

Update - Programmed the Flash with a dump found online and now it powers and DOES NOT shut off after a few seconds.

However the fan control is intermittent. Sometimes it does not spin at all (even at very high temp) and sometimes goes full speed.

When the fan is off the PWM signal is low on the EC and when on the signal is 5v.

Any clues? Maybe the EC is faulty?

can you attach the bios file here?
Just cook it! It's already broken.

          Update: Success!

It took me 3 days non stop to fix this issue. It was software related after all.

After changing a BD82HM55 chip, then the BIOS (dump) needs to be modified with a CLEAN ME firmware.

I used Flash Image Tool: 6.0.40.1212 to inject the CLEAN ME firmware to my original dump.

          After several attempts it worked.

Please follow link below to download the modified and working firmware. Please note that this is only suitable for Sony VAIO VPC EA/EB series.

If you have the same issue on another platform, I will then provide more details on how to do it.

            Hi,
I have read your thread and unfortunately, the link is outdated.(logical). I have the same issue with a vceb2s1e. The only way to get the fan quit, is to use afuwinx64 in a dos window. Until you restart the laptop and it will be on full speed again. You can't keep flashing every time.
This indicates that it is something with the bios, but I tried many different versions and the next time it starts up, the fan is at full speed again. Strange.

            I would appreciate some help.

            thx

I use an SPI EEPROM programmer. It can be done through command line as well but not sure how.

I tried different ways with Afuwin and FWupdate but no luck.
I do have the CH341A programmer, but I used that already on other eeproms
and that didn't go well. The programming in reading and writing went normal, the chip was recognized but the chip didn't work anymore after that. I flashed the wrong bios.bin or I did something wrong with the CH341A

"Solved" the fan problem. I have been busy with Aduwin, Fwupdate, ME flash tools and tried them with different bios version. I have a combo now from R0300Y8 with K0230Y8 and I know this is not correct, but it works. Therefor the "solved" Enough time went in this fan problem.

Kevspit, thanks for the help and advise.

I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                                      Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.
