Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
Thanks for the information.
So your profile takes about 7 minutes to desolder a chip. Well, mine takes around 4 to 5 minutes to do that. Maybe this is too fast.
How about soldering a new chip? How long does it take to reach the peak?
I am using original Amtech NC-559-V2 flux (€20/10cc).
BTW, What is the brand and model of your machine?
Thanks...

Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
Hello dellxps15, are you from Italy? We're neighbours then
Yes, I took the picture of that heater which is the upper element of the Jovy RE-8500. I put it in full power on purpose to that I can take a picture and show the 'fault'.
When the machine is operated, a reflector with a square hole would be be fitted over the ceramic heater so that the infra-red beam would be focused on the device under rework only.
By the way, the curve shows the whole process which is 10 minutes long and Do you think...

Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
Which input power? Of the machine or the heater itself?
You had the same issue? You mean, the BGA were dying?
What did you buy from a different manufacturer? A new BGA machine?
Thanks...

Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
At one point I even used three thermocouples touching the IC under rework.
The temperatures were different between these 3 thermocouples, that's why I am suspecting the heater is faulty. It is showing uneven heating....

Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
I have attached photos of actual profile being used and the top heater with 'cold' spots.
I think the heater is faulty....

Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue
Think I found what's causing the issue. Part of the top ceramic heater is not working.
Anyone has a Jovy RE-8500 so that we can compare this?
Thanks

Jovy RE-8500 issue
Anyone using Jovy RE-8500?
I am having issues with soldering GPU and southbridge BGA chips.
My machine is killing the chips. After soldering the chips to the PCB, either the laptop does not switch on or else the GPU will get very hot, sometimes more than 100°C.
I also had instances where the laptop works for one week and the it comes back and I find out that the chips is dead.
Has anyone ever experience this issue?
Thanks

Re: Sony VPCEB1E0E (PCG-71312M)
I use an SPI EEPROM programmer. It can be done through command line as well but not sure how.
Can anyone help please? Thanks...

Re: Rework of laptop motherboards
It depends on the humidity level of one's current location. I've already had bad experience with pop corning on the PCBs so in my case preheating and removing moisture is a must.
Thanks...

Re: Rework of laptop motherboards
Thanks for the advice. It looks like that I need to invest in a heat chamber....

Rework of laptop motherboards
Hello,
Need some information regarding pre heating/baking of laptop motherboard prior to removing and soldering large BGA chips like GPU and North bridge.
I am aware that the BGA themselves need to be heated for 105 - 110°C for at least 5 hours but need info on how to get rid of moisture from the PCB and therefore avoid and pop corning on the PCB itself.
1. Is it recommended to pre heat the motherboard to remove moisture from the PCB before removing a BGA?
2. If so, what is the recommended temperature and time for preheating/baking?
3....

That is an SC412A from Semtech

Re: Sony VPCEB1E0E (PCG-71312M)
Update: Success!
It took me 3 days non stop to fix this issue. It was software related after all.
After changing a BD82HM55 chip, then the BIOS (dump) needs to be modified with a CLEAN ME firmware.
I used Flash Image Tool: 6.0.40.1212 to inject the CLEAN ME firmware to my original dump.
After several attempts it worked.
Please follow link below to download the modified and working firmware. Please note that this is only suitable for Sony VAIO VPC EA/EB series.
If you have...
