HP 6735s dead after bios upgrade

    Hi guys!

I have this 6735s that I upgraded from Vista to 7. I had the problem that I can't regulate brightness in Windows 7. Searching in the net, I've found that the problem was the outdated bios. I downloaded the last 2.1 bios release of this bios and did the upgrade thru FreeDOS (using ROMpaq.exe). The operation went to the end without problems.

Maybe I did the mistake to reboot the PC with ctrl alt del and not shutting it down from the button. The PC restarted with black screen. After a couple of minutes, I shutted it down from the button and tried to turn it on again. From that moment, I only obtain AC adapter orange light blinking (with blue always on), while I only put the jack in and nothing more happens. No button or light works.

Now I believe I have a BIOS corrupted in my PC. How can I try to reprogram it?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

    yes, BIOS is corrupt.

someone is able to recover corrupt BIOS using BIOS Crisis Recovery using USB. See below link.
    http://www.systutorials.com/3022/hp-...bios-flashing/

or you can use EEPROM Programmer and flash attached BIOS file.

Unfortunately I can't use Crisis Recovery mode, because my 6735s won't boot at all. When I press the power button, nothing happens!

Should I desolder the BIOS to re-program it? Can you tell me what programmer should I buy for this operation? Is there any diy programmer to assemble?

      What BIOS chip 6735s has?

        @DS-1
you can use any universal EEPROM Programmer but for this job done I use Top2011.

        see on ebay.

Is something like this good for this job?

Do you know what BIOS chip 6735s has? I will look for a programmer that can be used for that kind of chip.

as per schematic 6735s have SST25VF016B chip.

I've found this, too. It's from China. Is it that hard to desolder the BIOS from the motherboard?

The EZP2010 is sufficient. I recommend to buy a set of socket adapters for easy change SPI chips.
The best way to desolder the chip is to use a hot air gun.

                          It does not work.
I try and almost fry my usb where the programmer was.

He try to power the board trough usb lol.
Desolder read write solder it back and thats it.

I got clip because i dont wanna solder on adapter. So yee

I was thinking to try to read with notebook.on via a usb hub with psu.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Can this work for what I need? It is cheaper.

Both programmers I've linked seems to have adapter to be used with SST25VF016B.

I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...
