I decided to start a new thread, in hopes there are folks more knowledgeable than I. I searched high and low until I found a bios file that I needed, eventually I prevailed. I tried to program the chip and received the error message "file is to long"!!! Interestingly, I have tried several bios files that were 8mb in length ON THE SAME CHIP with no error messages. I'm guessing the bios file MUST have a tiny useless file within, correct? When I check the size of a different Samsung 8mb bios file that lets me program the chip, it's the same size as the 8mb Samsung bios file that returns an error. So basically we must be talking about a few kb difference correct?

Re: 8mb bios file is too long for 8mb chip?
Attach the BIOS file here and we'll take a look. Some BIOS files have some extra info appended at the end for the manufacturers' BIOS update tools to use. This info prevents, for instance, flashing it on the wrong system. Sometimes it is also responsible for detecting whether the battery is charged or the AC adapter is plugged in, sometimes they use a separate utility for that.
This kind of BIOS file is very common with Dell for example, or other laptops that use Phoenix BIOS (.WPH files). Most of the time it's a simple job of trimming the end of the file so it fits exactly into your BIOS chip.Last edited by Th3_uN1Qu3; 12-26-2014, 08:40 AM.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company. -

by testaccgtaHi, everyone!
I've recently acquired two brand new SPI chips to replace the one currently in my Acer A514-54G laptop MB (FH5AT LA-K092P). The reason why I'm replacing the current SPI chip is because I had some difficulties with a third-party IT assistant who pretty much lacked the soldering skills and ended up destroying the current SPI chip soldered to my MB from factory.
I've decided to do this on my own because I spent the past month or so learning some soldering skills and BIOS modding through Badcaps and WinRaid forums, hence the attempt. I've also chosen to buy...-

by EbrahimSiamiHello everyone,
I need help with my Acer Aspire 5920G laptop. Its original GeForce 8600M GT graphics card failed, so I replaced it with an Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT MXM card.
**Problem:** The laptop powers on, but there is no display (black screen) on either the internal LCD or external monitor. This indicates a BIOS compatibility issue with the new graphics card.
**What I have tried so far:**
1. I have my **original stock BIOS dump (1MB .BIN file)** from my laptop, which works and allows the laptop to power on normally (but no display with 9600M...-

Long story short:
- dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
- gave the computer to his son a couple years later
- son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
- too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)
He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8... - Loading...
