    ASUS ROG STRIX G512LW-ES76 BIOS

    MB : G532LWS R1.3
    S/N : L8NRKD02360734A
    Intel Core i7 10th GEN
    NVIDIA GE FORCE RTX 2070

Hello all, I have been researching an issue on my son's laptop. The laptop powers on, but has no video. The video briefly worked with the USB-C port, but has stopped displaying video all together. So, no HDMI, screen, or USB-C. It is starting up, I can see the backlight but no display. You can hear the annoying startup sound when it turns on. My son told me that it completed an update and then the issues began.

After my research I have found that a lot of owners of these laptops have had issues after system updates. I have downloaded the boardview file and schematic. I can see that the board has 2 BIOS chips, and I am almost certain that the main BIOS chip is U2802 (MX25L12873FM2I-10G). There is another chip, U7802 (W25Q80EWSNIG-ND), but it is only an 8Mbit chip, which is too small to hold the main BIOS file from what I have learned.

I have purchased a CH341A programmer and I will need a BIOS, so I can reprogram the chip. In my research I have also read that you cannot just upload a BIOS file that has been downloaded from the ASUS website. Is that correct? I want to do this correctly, so I will appreciate everyone's guidance before attempting to reflash the BIOS chip.

I am new to this, so if my assumptions or understanding are incorrect, please feel free to correct me. I am here to learn from this experience and hopefully continue my learning experience.

    Thanks,
    Pete

      Thanks hoaca388!

I ordered a CH341a and was able to download the BIOS. Can someone please provide a new BIOS, or can I just download it from the ASUS website. I would like to learn how to do this with some guidance.

Should I upload the bin file I downloaded from my BIOS IC?

      Thanks,
      Pete

I need you to backup bios with your CH341A device, even if it is broken.

This is the most important step when requesting bios repair.

Hello hoaca388, I performed 3 dumps, compared the 3, and they are identical. I have saved the 3 files, so the backup part is done.

I was going to use the firmwares provided in the following post, but I am not sure if that was the correct thing to do. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...es76-bios-help

          Here is the file.

          Thanks!

, or anyone else can chime in, since I am new to this I want to be sure that I have the correct IC identified as the BIOS chip. I have identified U2802 as the BIOS, but there are 2 ICs on this board and the other is U7802. Am I correct, that the BIOS is on U2802?

                Thanks,
                Pete

Thank you hoaca388 for the FW. The laptop boots into the BIOS, but I get a flash of the logo, and then it goes to black screen the majority of the time. There have been times when it boots into the BIOS and the logo flashes in the center of the screen and it goes to black screen. Then, there have been times when it boots into the BIOS, but only half of the screen is visible. The BIOS screen is completely visible, cropped into half of the screen. What would the suggestions be in this case? I suspect the GPU has solder issues, but I am not sure.

I wanted to add that I checked to see if there was a display signal on USB-C and HDMI, but it was not present. Even when I get the two situations above I have no display on USB-C or HDMI. The backlight is working correctly, as far as I can tell. I have performed these tests with the drive disconnected. I figured if it has problems with the drive disconnected then it was and issue with the BIOS or the GPU. Please let me know what you guys think and what steps should I take now.

                      by BMCappelletti
                      Long story short:
                      - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                      - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                      - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                      - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

With ASUS, not everything is quite so simple. I will show you my way. It may be longer or harder but it is the right way to do it in my humble opinion.

For example, you can have 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all being the same model, all of which will have different BIOS versions.

I will give you an example and my version of preparing BIOS from ASUS website and in the process I am always cleaning Intel ME while doing it so you have fully cleaned BIOS, no DMI data, no password, nothing.

This is the picture of 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all of them being X555LD...

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...
