Hello guys, several months ago i used this thread to install firmware compatible with my laptop to remove the BIOS password set by the previous owner who abandoned it. I succeeded at unlocking the laptop thanks to your efforts and i am grateful.
Now at the present, i wanted to install some RAM modules for the laptop to upgrade it from 16GB to 32GB. The stock ram i had at the time had max RAM timings of 2400MHz (1200MHz) cuz DDR and all that. The new RAM i bought can go up to 3200MHz which i knew wouldn't be supported by the laptop but i believed the ram timings would go down to a frequency suitable for functionality.
Here is an image which provides the Serial Number of the Laptop in question :
When going into the UEFI, the system recognized the 32GB of RAM. When trying to boot into Ubuntu, i was stuck at the loading screen which then the circular progress bar promptly froze.
Switching back to my old RAM solved the issue.
To delve deeper into the issue, i booted onto MemTest86 and tried the memory for both cases, with the old and new RAM
Here are my results when using the OLD RAM :
The memory is clocked at 1203MHz
NEW RAM :
The memory is running at 1604 MHz!!!
The CPU is not rated to handle that. What i tried next to force a downclock on the memory was to mix the old and new to get 24GB (8 + 16)GB which resolved the issue.
What i want to know is, is there a possible way to force a downclock on the memory? The UEFI does not give me access to such options and was hoping to see if modifying the firmware would resolve this.
Here is the dump of the firmware :Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

The serial number must be typed as text as per the forum rules. Anyway, the easy fix is to use matching pairs of ram, i doubt there is anything that could be modded in the bios. If you wanted to keep the ram maybe you could edit the SPD but that`s a whole different topic. Now at the present, i wanted to install some RAM modules for the laptop to upgrade it from 16GB to 32GB. Info from google AI:
The system supports RAM speeds of 2400 MHz and 2666 MHz (PC4-19200 and PC4-21300/PC4-21300U). Faster modules (e.g., 3200 MHz) will automatically downclock to the maximum speed supported by the motherboard.
Best official setup: 2 x 16 GB DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM modules.
Maximum potential setup: 2 x 32 GB DDR4-2666 (or faster, which will downclock)Comment

Yes i do have matching pairs of 2X16 GB.
Its true that in the images i only used 1 stick but the result stays the same if i use two of them. Logically i thought it would automatically downclock to a speed the laptop would support when using the RAM but it seems to not be the case...
Im not familiar with SPD modding but i doubt i have the tools to flash the RAM sticks nor do i know if they are locked or not.Comment

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.
I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...-

by razor_amdWith ASUS, not everything is quite so simple. I will show you my way. It may be longer or harder but it is the right way to do it in my humble opinion.
For example, you can have 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all being the same model, all of which will have different BIOS versions.
I will give you an example and my version of preparing BIOS from ASUS website and in the process I am always cleaning Intel ME while doing it so you have fully cleaned BIOS, no DMI data, no password, nothing.
This is the picture of 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all of them being X555LD...-

by piratiHello everyone,
I recently bought a non-working Asus Zenbook Pro Duo OLED UX8402ZA that was listed for parts only. The seller mentioned that it had no display output but that the charging lights worked.
When the laptop arrived (without a charger and SSD), I connected a charger and confirmed with a multimeter that it was charging the battery. However, when I tried to power it on, only the backlight of the secondary display came on. There was no image, and it didn’t boot into the BIOS.
I decided to try flashing a new BIOS, but since I didn’t want to desolder...-

by grimacelordHello,
I have spent the last hour on this and I guess this is just over my head, so here I am.
I have an ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI motherboard here that needs to have the BIOS updated in order to accept the latest CPUs.
The BIOS chips seem to come as a set of two: GD25B64ESIG and GD25B128ESIG. My guess is one of them is a fail-safe for the main BIOS? I really don't know. Or one of them is ME and other is BIOS? I don't know.
Anyway, I took dumps of both chips and then downloaded the latest update for this motherboard from ASUS's website...-

by jbonavitaHi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
Some issues
A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized
Things I tried
1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...-
