Cannot modify HP Envy 15 ep-00008na BIOS

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to modify my BIOS to unlock the advanced menus and unlock the processor power limits. The first thing I have tried is reading the BIOS from the laptop and opening it up in amibcp, and changing the advanced menu to User. However, no matter what tiny change I make to the BIOS, when I flash it back to the laptop with a programmer it says there is corruption and the BIOS needs to be recovered.

I've also tried rolling back the BIOS to an older version. I made the mistake of updating to the latest version and now I cannot even edit the CFG and OC lock in NVRAM to enable undervolting. I think one problem here might be the fact that I haven't copied the DMI information from my original BIOS to these older ones from the HP support site, but from what I have read the laptop is supposed to go into some manafacturer configuration mode, but instead when I flash any BIOS that's not the original copy or some modification, the laptop turns into a paperweight - no battery charge indicator when plugging it in, and it will not turn on at all.

I have tried to transfer the DMI information over anyway. I followed some guides which showed how to search for serial number and other information with a hex editor and then copy it to the new BIOS. However, I cannot find any information stored in my BIOS at all. The only serial I can find stored is the original battery serial number. I can't find the UUID or feature bit or anything at all in my original BIOS files.

It'd be great if someone knew what was going on here. Is there some kind of signature verification going on at boot time? The BIOS downloads do come with a signature file but I thought they were only used by the normal BIOS updater, and that flashing with a SPI programmer would bypass this. Here is all of my laptop information anyway:

    Model: HP Envy 15 ep-00008na
    Spec: i7-10750H, RTX 2060, 32GB ram
    Serial: SCD0351WSJ
    UUID: 30444335-3533-5731-534A-4A5735334435
    BIOS Version: F.12
    System board CT number: PKDJC028JE40RR
    Battery SN: 08389 05/30/2020
    Build ID: 20WW1KBT601#SABU#DABU
    Feature byte: 3K6b 7K7N 7W7z aBap aqas awbh cbdU dpdq fDfP hZj6 KFKH KRm9 mgn3 n4 .gY

I've a copy of my original BIOS, and an older version I'm trying to go back to. Thank you for any help or insight.

Ok little update, I managed to brick the laptop or something right as I was flashing back the original and calling it a day for a while. Now the power led just cycles on and off, no fans no display. Long day.

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
      by glovecaps
      Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

      [HELP] G712LWS BIOS capsule
      by TraJikar Mac
I need someone that can capsulate one of the bios files below, and i prefer the older bios version so i can flash it using CH341A tool into the bios chip.
The manufacturer BIOS files are bigger than the BIOSbackup1.bin files by 256KB and I don't know how to fix or recompile it.

You can see in this link a conversation between me and other people (Starting at page 10) who tried to help me (thanks to their efforts), but i still couldn't fix it and the laptop is considered as dead until now.

Also, I uploaded a backup file for the bios that I extracted by using CH341A...
