The other side of the resistor also mates with pin # 111 on the IT8987E KBC controller. That is the final piece to this puzzle.

What is the resistance from the LEFT side of R182 to the IT8987E KBC pin # 111 ?

    See attached.

Not sure which orientation to determine left side of R182. but on the side nearest R190 i get 4.55 Kilo ohms and on the other side i get 0 ohms.

Can you check again? One meter probe on the LEFT side of R182; other meter probe on pin #111 of the IT8987E device (as per above diagram).

Be sure to count from the top right of the IC = pin #97.

The resistance should be ~0 ohms on this check but is from the LEFT side of R182.

Added a pic from the internet of the IT8987E.

Perhaps you can post a pic of the same part from your logic board ? Then we can agree on the location of pin #1. So far, unable to find a public datasheet for this part.

see attached pic. only one probe for illustration so i could take photo. from those points i get 0 ohms.

Good. So this confirms that ITE8987E, pin #111 has the pull-up attached (R182).

From all of this, have the following suggestions - if you wish to consider them:

            1) you will need a piece of wire to connect from the LEFT side (important that it is the LEFT side) of R182.

Other side of the wire to the large pad (since it should be easier to solder to) @ PR13. If required, scrape the top side solder mask or whatever coating they have applied with a sharp knife but do not cut the trace of course.

That is connection # 1. Then power up again.

You should now see ~3v3 at the BQ charger IC since this is PR13 junction.

            2) After the above, another wire from PR13 large pad to PD1 which will mate the pin # 3 of the battery connector.

Again, after this bridge, you should see ~3v3 at the PD1 = pin # 3 of the battery connector.

Suggest for you to consider this tomorrow when you are well rested.

There is some PCB trace break, based on the initial posted logic board schematic from the IT8987E to the rest of the PCB for the MBDATA signal.

With this trace break, the battery charger IC is unable to chat with the battery pack for all activity and it will impact charging as well.

Thank you so much for all of your help I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I will attempt what you suggested and let you know the outcome. but again thankyou for all your time and patience helping me and teaching me.

Just confirming again the left side of the R182 is the side i pointed to in my pic hey?lol

Yes - sorry - that is correct.

The MIDDLE junction that is the RIGHT of R182 and also mates with R190 = +3VPCU.

The LEFT side is from the point of view of the pic you have posted earlier = where you will be soldering the wire (single strand wire like wire wrap wire is nice to use here). Flexible but insulated single strand wire works well here.

Watch your heat on R182 since too much heat will melt the solder on the other side. Use a pencil soldering iron here for the wiring (not hot air gun).

From the assorted tests, this is the recommended solution and suspecting that somewhere on the board is a damaged via (most likely) or a broken PCB trace.

Each point we referenced = MBDATA and the +3v3 from the pull-up resistor is not reaching each point on the PCB. Critical ones are the BQ and battery pins.

Cross our fingers, take your time and double-check each step of your work then test again.

So i finally managed to do what you suggested. but it seems to not have worked. the charger light no longer lights up when i connect it. I have attached a few pics of what i did. please advise if this was correct or if there is something i have done that is wrong. Also just a query but the pad at "PR13" is it the correct pad that ive soldered to? there is another pad in the pic that is 3V3.

Attach the power adapter, measure the voltage to ground of MBDATA.

                    What is the voltage reading?

Confirm the voltage on each side of R182. Also on each side of R190.

                    Post each measurement.

So R182 had died so I replaced it and made a jumper from R182 to the pad at PR13 and all is working. 😁 didn't need to jump to PD1 so the break must be between R182 and the pad. But it's all working so thankyou so much for all the help and advice I am greatly appreciative.

Hi @Mon2, So i have one more question regarding this laptop that i hope you can help with. All is working well on this machine however connecting an external monitor via hdmi is not working. It doesnt seem to detect the port in windows either.
