I was fixing this for someone and the laptop originally had a backlight problem and i resolved it. then the person tried to replace the keyboard and must've shorted something because now it shows no signs of life. the backlight issue was pretty easy because the burned mosfet on the graphics card was very noticeable. i can't find any shorted caps anywhere on it. the 16v rail and the 3v and 5v rail are there. I need someone give me clue as to what might be missing or shorted

by mkdjDear all,
I have taken out the motherboard of a Acer TravelMate P214. There is a short to ground on the main power rail (19V). I don't have the schematics or boardview for this board (DAZ8IMB1AA0 REVA). But I have found 4 MOSFETS close to the main power rail : 2 N-Channel and 2 P-Channel.
I have checked resistance across each of the 4 MOSFETS. I have the following readings:
Both N-Channel Mosfets: nothing odd
P-Channel MOSFET number 1:
source - drain : 117 kOhm
source - gate: 96 Ohm
gate - drain: 117 kOhm
P-Channel MOSFET... -
Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by abajorI haven't been able to find a schematic or board view for one of these out in the wild. I had one come in with a no charge/no boot issue.
It Uses two pairs of Source to Source Mosfets after the power jack to prevent back flow from battery or PSU after the power jack.
The drain on the board feed side of the Mosfets measures a near dead short to ground. I attempted a voltage injection there it draws about 1.4A at 1V absolutely nothing heats up on the thermal camera.
It draws 1.86A injecting directly to ground.
Is this just the way it is when these ultra...03-19-2025, 03:23 AM -
by GLISITHi all,
TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!
I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!
A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about... - Loading...
