Re: Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IKA NM-B452 not charging battery

Reflash the bios and post your updates and details of the bios that works with the other system.

So the laptop CAN charge the batteries if 2 cell. Not if 3 cell.

You are testing with the battery pack that is open and working with raw battery cells and a the BMS board inside the battery pack? If yes, that is very dangerous to do.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IKA NM-B452 not charging battery

I made a new bios dump from the lenovo site just to be clean but it didn't fix the battery charge issue.
This laptop is unable to charge any battery, either 2 or 3 cells.
A similar model can change all the batteries so the batteries are not to blame.

No I haven't dismantled any battery, I do that only for scap batteries to get cells for projects.

Thank you for your time, it seems we have checked all the suspected parts but with no luck.

I upload the blank clean bios I cut from lenovo site for anyone that might need it.

It is hard to remotely troubleshoot a physically damaged board without getting one single picture of the actual damage.

ok, this time I have some photos too.
So far I have replaced again the PU301, both dc-in mosfets and the KBC.

First picture shows the PU301 area with the new lines at the shunt resistor.

Second picture shows the board at the other side of PL302 which has a lift [where the green solder mask is]

Third photo shows probably what caused the issue, it has burned lines from the lan and a lift at the spot there...

You must see 25V on the ACDRV Bro. Change PQ311.

Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with a LENOVO IDEAPAD 320. The 20V voltage isn't showing on the switching MOSFETs.

              NM-B321 REV 1.0

It turns out they had a jumper between the PJ101 and PJ201. I then checked to see if the BQ24780S charger IC might be shorted. I replaced it, but the problem persists. The MOSFETs aren't shorted! It won't turn on with the charger. The other thing I noticed is that it turns on with the battery in, but it doesn't charge. I'm confused. Please help me.

Connect the power adapter. Carefully measure the voltage to ground of each pin on the first mosfet.

                source (1-2-3)
                gate (4)
                drain (5-6-7-8)

post each voltage measurement for a review.

Next logic request is to carefully measure the volts on each pin on the BQ charger IC. Post the measurements with their PIN number and pin function. The datasheet from Texas Instruments is a great reference guide for this review.

Hi friend, I measured the first MOSFET as mentioned.

                  SOURCE: 0V
                  GATE: 0V
                  DRAIN: 20V

Regarding the BQ24780S integrated circuit, these are the measurements:

                  vcc: 20V
                  ACDET: 2.6V
                  CMSRC: 0V
                  ACOK: 3.3V
                  SDA: 3.3V
                  SCL: 3.3V
                  BATDRV: 0.8V
                  REGN: 6.0V
                  ACIN: 20V
                  ACP: 20V

It's worth mentioning that if I remove the jumper after the two MOSFETs, they both start working and switch.

                  Thank you for your help.

Remove the jumper and any hacks on the board. When in normal mode, what is the gate voltage if this first mosfet? It should be ~25v to enable. The same on the gate pin of the 2nd dcin mosfet to enable. Otherwise, these mosfets are suspects and could be shorted. Test their resistance without any power to the board.

                    Measure:

                    Source / Drain
                    Source / gate
                    Gate / Drain

Each resistance should be hundreds of k ohms or higher else may be defective. Test both dcin mosfets and post their measurements.

                      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

HP ProBook 445 G8 Battery not charging
                      by Julian Bailey
                      Hi all

We have in a HP ProBook 445 G8 laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. When power is connected the power LED light blinks 5 times then stops. Normally HP laptops will blink this LED 10 times as it does a self test when the AC adaptor is inserted. So there must be some sort of short somewhere.

The battery doesn't charge, and is erratic on the MM voltage. Bench PSU LED pulsates when the battery is connected also. So the fault must be on the charging circuit?

I have gone around the board with a MM and cant find anything

Lenovo Carbon X1 Battery not charging

Hi, Working on a Lenovo X1 Carbon 1st Gen (Type 3444) Laptop. Came in for battery problems. Upon testing the battery, I noticed that one of the cells is bursted & has to be replaced. Ordered a Brand New battery. Now it works on battery but does not charge at all. I see in Windows 10 it shows the charging sign & AC power connected but stuck on 79%. I did a press-in switch reset at the botton of the laptop, but did not help. Checked the Voltage on the chip BQ24760RSBR, all seem to be fine. Battery voltages are ok 14.4v but on the battery coil L24, when AC is plugged in I only get 1.8V. Then...

                      1. Some theory
                      1.1. Introduction
Almost every laptop has a charging circuit of some sort, that does a few things:
                      • Manages switching between AC adapter and battery power
                      • Manages battery charging and generates power rail to charge battery

There are 2 different designs to handle switching between AC adapter and battery power and feeding the system:
                      • Hybrid power boost (HPB) and traditional circuits without power boost (see Warning in HPB section)
                      • Narrow VDC (NVDC)

Texas instrument has a nice overview of these technologies with some more details at https:...

Lenovo P43s won't boot with internal battery connected – looking for help diagnosing battery issue
                      by code share
                      Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad P43s. The laptop does not power on when the internal battery is connected, but it works fine on AC power alone (battery disconnected). Once the battery is reconnected, the system becomes completely unresponsive — no lights, no fan spin, nothing.

Here's what I've tried so far:
                      • Power/EC reset (held power button for 60 seconds with battery and AC disconnected)
                      • Booted successfully on AC power only with the battery disconnected
                      • Visual inspection of the battery — no swelling, burn marks, or connector damage
                      • Battery
