Asus E403 no Wifi after repairing battery connector.

Hi! I recently repaired the battery connector on an Asus E403 after the previous person had completely destroyed the connector along with the traces.

The laptop now works perfectly on battery power, but for some reason, wifi does not work at all. Windows and Ubuntu do not detect any wifi card in the system, even after trying a few different wifi cards and installing all the neccesary drivers.

I did notice that Ubuntu and Windows do detect a bluetooth card in the system when I reconnect the network card, but the wifi side of things is completely missing.

I've checked the board and I can not see any damage to the PCI connector or any of the surrounding components. I'm also getting voltage on the PCI connector itself.

I'm completely stuck right now and would appreciate any help and advice.

    Thanks

The design is very likely to be a mini-pcie interface style.

Locate the module and inspect the nearby dc-blocking caps that must be present for the clock lines / interface lines. If any of the caps are damaged or missing, the communication will halt from the logic board to this PCIe device.

Post clear pix of the area, perhaps we can locate the caps. Often they are 0.1 uf 0402 sized caps (from the PCIe spec) - we use 0402 in our many many PCIe designs.

Plan B is to use an external USB ethernet dongle which are quite cheap and sturdy. ASIX has a good ethernet controller and with mature device drivers. Natively supported on MAC products. Windows / Linux support as well is available.

Update - found BV files for this logic board - which version do you have ? The design is PCIe interface. Post silk screen details so we can locate the WLAN connector to save some time.

      Thank you for your reply.

I'll attach an image of the area around the PCI-e connector as well as the the board numbers.

If you're wondering what all of the black stuff is on the board, the battery connector had to be glued back down with B-7000 glue as the pads to hold the connector to the board were completely ripped and missing.

I hope these photos are ok.

See attached for the boardview file for this logic board.

Perhaps some nearby parts flew off the board during the rework of the battery connector ?

Will study once at the office.

it looks like a missing component in the red circle, probably a large capacitor/inductance/resistor.
check with the boardview provided by mon2!

EDIT: check 2nd image for R2402

Thank you for your reply. I don't think a component is meant to go there. I've taken a look at some boards online for sale and in the photos, the same pad is also empty.

Thank you for your help though

check if you have 3v on pins 2,4,72,74 of the pcie connector. in this case that resistance is probably not necessary, although from the photo it seems that a component has been badly removed from that place.
if the +3v is present and stable it could be a problem of some signal, but mon2 is certainly more experienced than me

Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 won't run on battery after motherboard replacement
                by dhenion
I'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.

                The original board was:
                ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A

                The replacement board is:
                ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)

It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...

ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI - BIOS Help
                by grimacelord
                Hello,

I have spent the last hour on this and I guess this is just over my head, so here I am.

I have an ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI motherboard here that needs to have the BIOS updated in order to accept the latest CPUs.

The BIOS chips seem to come as a set of two: GD25B64ESIG and GD25B128ESIG. My guess is one of them is a fail-safe for the main BIOS? I really don't know. Or one of them is ME and other is BIOS? I don't know.

Anyway, I took dumps of both chips and then downloaded the latest update for this motherboard from ASUS's website...

Asus TUF won’t run off battery
                by rob777
I have an Asus TUF machine that doesn't run off battery. Runs off charger ok, shows orange battery charging light and shows battery is at 96%. Battery voltage is less than 0.5v though. It had a short on the 20v rail from a dead cap. Pic attached. Removed cap and replaced a dc in mosfet. Machine now powers and runs fine.
I have also replaced all 3 battery mosfets with no change. The 1st battery mosfet has 20v going in. Pic attached.
Does it sound like a battery ic problem, it has bq2470. Not sure if I should replace that as well at this stage as I'd need to order one.
                Thanks....

Help identifying connector for ASUS 4090 Strix RGB LED connector
                by 5mall5nail5
                Hi All -

I had replaced my ASUS 4090 Strix cooler with a waterblock and put the stock cooler on the shelf. Was moving it and snagged my sweater on the connector and pulled the wires out of the pins on the RGB connector. I tried to get them back on but its too small so I opened the stamped pins and tried to solder but its not a good repair and the wire broke on reinstallation.

Looking to replace the connector on the cable side and get pins to crimp onto a new cable. Bought random JST and such but nothing is correct. Can anyone help identify the connector and possibly matching...

                Hello everyone

I have been working on this laptop mentioned in the title, it initially had a shorted capacitor. After I replaced it, the thing started working again, but there is still another problem. The laptop was running off a charger, the battery was reporting 96% charge... but when I unplugged the charger, the laptop died. I've measured the battery voltage - 0V. I think it is locked. (Screenshot from batterymon, below).

I've ordered a new 3rd-party battery, but I think there's something wrong with it too - the laptop boots, but the battery isn't charging. Also,...
