    A1466 820-00165 Missing PM_SLP_S5_L

Customer claims it turned off while using it, and couldn't get it on anymore.

The board had a drop of liquid damage on R8141, replaced it and it's measuring good on both sides. Trace seems to be fine as well, the power gets to the U7501. Replaced U7501 as well, but still no boot. When connecting the charger the light goes green => amber as it should. Using the logi.wiki boot chart I see I'm missing PM_SLP_S5_L, it is at 0V. It's my first time coming across this issue, and I'm kinda stuck on what's the next step.

    Thanx in advance!

Check for shorts on each rail, and report resistance on L7630 (PP1V05_S0). No point continuing if you have a bad PCH. Under 100 ohms is usually no good.

Post PPBUS_G3H, PP3V42_G3H and PP3V3_S5 voltages. You should get 8.6V (if SMC is running, 8.3V if not), 3.42V, 3.3V in S5 state.

    You won't get 3.3V S5 without SMC_PM_G2_EN being high.

        @reformatt
PP1V05_S0 gives me around 300 ohms resistance, so we should be good?
        PPBUS_G3H 8.55v
        PP3V42_G3H 3.43v
        PP3V3_S5 3.32v
        SMC_PM_G2_EN is at 3.39v
I was following the link you mentioned, and everything is fine until the missing PM_SLP_S5_L signal.

Measured all the main rails for shorts, none that I could find.

        @piernov
I came across this wiki as well, but I don't fully understand it. None off the cases seem to fully resemble mine as well. I sadly don't own an oscilloscope at this point, but as far as I can tell with my multimeter I get 1 pulse on PM_SLP_S5_L, and nothing anymore after that.

PCH resistance is fine, no problem there. With the S5 voltages being correct, it can be a number of things. Check first to see if rails initially come up after power is first supplied. 165 boards can pulse once, twice or cycle. If you get no pulsing then you go through your PM_SLP_S4 pre-requisites as per the wiki power sequence.

Also try SMC Bypass - that can be a sensor problem or missing PP3V3_S5_AVREF_SMC if it starts.

I get one pulse on the 3v3 rails, nothing after that.

SMC bypass gives nothing, PP3V3_S5_AVREF_SMC is steady at 3.28v.

I should be clearer. S5 rails should always be present regardless of state. Pulsing (if occurring) will be S4 and above (PP5V_S4RS3, PP1V2_S3 ,PP1V05_S0, PPVCC_S0_CPU etc). You need to check these as soon as you apply power as they disappear pretty quickly.

Are you saying PP3V3_S5 goes off after power on? This should remain constant regardless of power state. Check for crap under the SMC.

Oh no no, that's on me. PP3V3_S5 stays on, at all times. S4 and above get 1 pulse, and nothing anymore after that.

Edit: As far as I can tell, there's no dirt around the SMC. I'm not too keen on lifting it.

A single pulse of S4 is usually SMC related. Take off the edge bonding and reflow it with flux. When I see two pulses (and there is no visible sign of corrosion), I currently have no solution to that (have a few boards in the donor pile that do that).

I just replaced the SMC, just to make sure. Same result, macbook drawing 0.029a, S5 OK, anything higher gets 1 pulse and nothing after that. I've seen that page you just linked, but none seem to be the problem here.

I'm close to giving up on this I'm just really annoyed by this because it seemed so straight forward with the R8141 being corroded.

                      Anyone have any other suggestions?

When you get PM_SLP_S4 go high, do all rails come up (including PPVCC_S0_CPU)? If so, check edges of the board for corrosion, especially around J6100 and U6100.

Use a scope to probe pin 1 of U6100 for activity during PM_SLP_S4 high state. Check track continuity of the 15/43 ohm resistors between U6100 and the CPU (R6110-->R6120 etc). J6100 is connected to all of this, so corrosion on this connector will kill a system dead.

PPVCC_S0_CPU does not get a pulse.

Continuity U6100 to CPU seems to be fine, I have 3.3v on pin 1 of U6100.

J6100 is super clean, the motherboard is very clean except for the initial corrosion on the R8141.

So what rails do come up then? You wont get Vcore without ALL_SYS_PWRGD so the fact that its missing means something in the power sequence is not good (or registering as good). You'll probably need to go through the power control items on pg 81.

Do I need to go further then this?

Also, by measuring something wrong I've just seen that P3V3_S5_COMP2 is at 2.2V, and P5VP3V3_VREF2
at 1.99V. Might this be a good indication? The U7501 is pulled from a donor board, don't have new ones available atm.

You have ALL_SYS_PWRGD but no Vcore voltages @L7210/L7220? Review the sequence "S0 to Reset State for Ivy Bridge Haswell and Broadwell" at https://logi.wiki/index.php/Bootup_Signal_Order

Check impedance to ground and the FET's for Vcore. Take off the heatsink and eyeball the PCH/CPU, seen these cracked before but usually are shorted in that event. Signals for Vcore come out of the PCH.

ALL_SYS_PWRGOD has a pulse, Vcore measured at L7310/7320 gives nothing, not a single pulse.

Looking at the sequence you linked, I'm missing SMC_DELAYED_PWRGD. Should I just assume the new SMC is no good?

PCH/CPU has no cracks or visible damage.

                                      Hi everyone.
Macbook Air A1466 EMC 3178 (board 820-00165 A) not turning on and no charging light. Completely dead. With no battery connected it would power up and I could hear the chime, but nothing on the screen and then a sudden turn off. Sometimes during the chime. Opened it up and found some liquid damage. The flat that connects both boards has damage in one side (with a missing pin already). The connectors on the boards are fine, though.
Also, there was liquid damage on the included picture area, which are R8111 and C8111. A quick and soft brush on it made the resistor be gone....

I have MacBook A1466 820-165-A after another service. Most of parts have rough traces of soldering (I guess they had been troubleshooting without success)

                                      Missing PM_SLP_S4_L
                                      because absent PM_SLP_S5_L

What processor needs to form PM_SLP_S5_L signal?

I tried to connect U8000 and U8180 to run directly but it doesn't want to run.

All of these signals are present:
                                      1. PPVRTC_G3H (VCCRTC) 3.3
                                      2. RTC_RESET_L (RTCRST#) 3.3
                                      3....

MBAir 13” A1466 missing SPI clock
                                      by fichamba
                                      Hello everybody:
I have an A1466 (MoBo 820-00165-A) which is driving me crazy.
It has all voltages, everything seems OK. It starts after connecting the Apple charger (fan spins normally; maybe a bit later than in a working board that I have side by side). The only (!!!) missing signal is the SPI clock.
I have measured at pin 6 of U6100 (the SPI), and I have nothing in the scope. Neither in the data in/out pints I have data train in the scope (just a little bit sometimes).
The working board is showing me fixed clock pulse at pin 6 of its SPI. I'm crazy about this....

                                      Macbook A1466 820-00165 PPBUS Missing
                                      by Instafixx
Hello, I have a Macbook A1466 80-00165 which is not turning on. It is taking 0 ohms and the PPBUS_G3H is at 0v at F7140.

Tried Injecting 1V but nothing gets hot.
Removed the F7140 fuse and the Pin#2 is still short to ground.

Can anyone suggest where the issue is ?
