    vcc-core shorted

    Hello all .
I am working with HP pavillion dv6000.This one can power on with battery charged. But can not boot with adapter. I find out vc-core is shorted. Check caps are ok. I want to know
where is the vcore connect to . may be the load is shorted. I do not know the load for vc-core.Help. TIA

ps This one has max8774 ic to produce vc-core. looklike this ic is ok.

Thanks for response STJ . I remove the 2 L filters And the short is on the other end (The load side with big caps) . Not the fets side.

cpu in a socket, or soldered down?

could be the cpu, more likely a bad capacitor - ceramic most likely.

Yesterday is a little bit different. Today I took out cpu . I find no more short at big caps filters for vcore.
Something interesting in working with laptop motherboard. Will post more If I find something new.

            Hi hienton2 !

Did you resolve this problem? I'm with the same situation. When I put the processor on the socket, some caps turn shorted. Is it really cap problem? I change the cpu, same problem.

            Thanks in advance.

              Re: vcc-core shorted

Can't test for shorts with the CPU installed since this will cause false readings on caps / diodes / fets. Half the board will appear shorted unless the CPU is removed before testing. That being said, my money is still on a shorted mosfet, quite possibly the 4407 closest to the DC jack. Do you know how to test these with a meter? Plug the charger in and trace the 19v line as far out as you can. Really the only other thing it could be is the maxim IC you were referring to. How did you test this to know its ok?

                Re: vcc-core shorted

The DV6000 series is a generic number. Please provide accurate information on the model. There may be an answer. It is on the bottom on the white sticker. DV6500 series is a lot different than DV61xx, DV62xx etc Some times the problem is not even in the power section or DC in.
If it's hard to repair I can do it. If it's impossible, it may take me a while.

                  Hi all,
this thread is related to vcore, so i am posting my problem here.
                  I am working on a industrial motherboard shb110 .
                  It has c2d processor(on board), 945 chipset,ich7.

Isl 6537a for gmch and ddr section 1.5v and 1.8v
and isl 6262 for cpu core section.
                  Sio w83627hg-aw

problem in this motherboard is , its not booting, cpu voltage is coming 0.7v , which should be 0.9v to 1v as per reading from working board

gmch, ddr, vtt_gmch all voltages coming properly.

Isl 6262 ic giving pgood and clken# signal properly which means ic is ok.

                  Pcirst signal is also coming.

Now i am stuck at this 0.7 v problem ....
Is it a problem of cpurst signal or cpu it self. Or else ...

Please anyone can guide me in this problem please....

                  Thanks in advance

                    Re: vcc-core shorted

Check CPU VCore capactors, check voltage of VID0 to VID6 pins of ISL6262. Make sure you use a good and compatible CPU.

PS: for every new problem you should open a new thread.

                      Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                      I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

Testing ATX PSUs under load - Does loading the ATX 24 pin also load EPS & PCIE?
                      by AJ847.63e
                      Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...

                      Panasonic TC-P50S1 shorted TXNSC1EDUU (TNPA4782AB) SC Board
                      by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                      D608, good
                      D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                      D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                      D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

                      IC464 Inverter HA MC74HC1G14, shorted...
