    HP Probook 450 G5 DA0X8CMB6E0 Rev. E short circuit

Hello, I have a problem with the board.
The mainboard switches itself on again as soon as the power is switched on. The power button LED lights up. The CPU gets warm / hot. But there is a short circuit on the board, almost every PIN is connected to ground. If a laboratory power supply is used with a few volts (2-8V), approx. 1A current is always drawn and the mainboard whistles. Since the CPU is always hot, I thought that this vl has a short circuit, how can I measure it?

Which PIN is showing a short to ground ? How was this tested ? Resistance mode on your meter? Which scale ? CPU rails often show this condition.

Where is the lab power supply being attached ? Is it at the DCIN of the laptop ?

    See attached.

Post the voltage readings (DC voltage scale; 20V or higher is ok) for the requested locations.

Red meter lead on the test point; Black meter lead to ground (shield is OK).

Next, remove all power. Meter in resistance mode.

Check & post the resistance to ground for the +VIN rail. A very low resistance will indicate a shorted cap on the leg which is causing the power supply to shut off. It is very possible the whining you are hearing is the oscillation of the power supply turning ON (detecting the short condition) -> then turning OFF. Much like a buzzer circuit which is causing an audible buzzing / whining sound.

        Hi Mon,

thanks for the feedback. Here the picture of the power supply being attached. I had a old DC IN Connector, i should not be a problem or?

I have on any PIN auf the BIOS Chip a Short to Ground. When i connect a USB Programmer the Programmer reboot and lost Power.

Where to i find the +Vin Test Point?

After the Mainboard where 2 Minute on Power with around 8V from the Power supply, no i looks like you write. Power on -> detecting the short condition -> Power off - > Power on -> detecting the short condition with audible buzzing.

        Thanks for reply

          Hi,

i have news, as anybody a idee. At the Beginning Power Supply Mosfet i have the 19V present. But not on every Mosfet 19V. I have Mosfet that have only 9V where i lost around the 10V?

I attached a Picture. Has anybody a idee? The Mainboard always has 1A usage, no matter to the Voltage, always 1A ?

The 4 Capacitors in the Picture, has short to Ground (0Ohm every side to ground). 0Ohm between the pads???

          Thanks.

Help me find the short circuit on this WORKING Nvidia GTX1650
            by aaronkatrini
            Hi all,

Recently picked up this GTX1650 at a local flea market for a low price and wanted to use it on my secondary PC. I first tested the card and saw the fan spin for a split second and then nothing. Immediately I thought of a short circuit. Disassembled and found a shorted SMD capacitor, injected voltage into it (1V/4A) and two Mosfets got hot immediately (QN3103 & QN3107). Desoldered these Mosfets and the card turned back to life.

Bought replacements from Aliexpress and replaced them afterwards. Tried the card but still the saw the fan spin for a split second...

Nintendo Switch lite charging chip heats up and does not short circuit
            by fab13
            Hello everyone

Small technical problem on a Nintendo Switch lite
Here's what I noticed: the USB port has been damaged internally, with a short circuit on the power supply line to the small fuse.

After replacing the USB connector, the short circuit went away and I can't see any other short circuit in the whole motherboard.

When I charge the console, it seems to be charging: I get 15 volts and an amperage of 0.450 A.

Then, after a while, the amperage increases to 1.1 A and the BQ24193 charging chip starts to heat up, as evidenced...

MSI B250 Gaming M3 Short circuit in CPU power supply circuit
            by M1NEBLANK SHOW
Hello. MSI B250 Gaming M3 board, short-circuit on the power supply. Found a problematic mosfet VQ1
(N-PK616BA_PDFN8-HF) soldered it out - short circuit is gone. I replaced VQ1 + VQ5 (N-PK632BA_PDFN8-HF). VQ1 was replaced with PK618. After starting attempt VQ1 is lit again. What can be the problem? In the driver?

Fault source of a short circuit
            by rumpumpel1
I have a mainboard with a short circuit (approx. 0 Ohm) on the 3.3V rail. As usual, I injected current and observed the mainboard with the thermal camera. Instead of individual components becoming warm, I observed that an area of several square centimeters became evenly warm from approx. 2A.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is it possible that there is a short circuit between two layers of the mainboard? The visual inspection of the mainboard did not reveal any abnormalities....

iMac power supply short-circuit diode to ground
            by pcardoso73
            Hi,
I have an iMac with the power supply reference: ADP-200DFB.

This power supply is not working and when trying to debug the problem with a multimeter, I found what I thought to be a short circuited diode (the short-circuit is to ground).

With the continuity test it beeps both ways, so doesn't block current flow at all then reverse biased. But after removing the diode the beep continues and the diode seems healthy. It seems to exist a real short-circuit.

As I have another ADP-200DFB power supply (faulty one as well), I have checked the same...
