latitude e5550 - no charge- all battery not recognized as genuine

-latitude e5550 all batteries sense as non genuine(ive tried two working genuine and two new non genuine).
-battery led flashing white and amber which indicated non genuine AC adapter. tried multiple bios.
    -ive tried multiple genuine chargers
-the circuitry seems to be working fine and battery and charging seems to be controlled by EU2 which is ECE5048-LZY
    https://datasheet.octopart.com/ECE50...-147335658.pdf
does this chip have to be programmed? or is it replaceable? do you all think this could be the reason?
i have two of these same exact problem.
tried the latest and earliest bios.

    hi.

    1) is the ac adapter original ?

    2) measure the voltages on pins 5, 6 and 7 of the battery connector. These are used to extract the data from the battery. if the local ESD diodes are zapped, they could hinder the communication channel to the logic board. As a test, you could simply remove these ESD TVS diodes and see if the results improve.

      Yes all genuine dell chargers.
dat and clk pins both fluctuate from 3.27V - 3.235V
pres read -30mV w/o charger and flat 0 with charger
      W/O battery
dat and clk read steady 3.305V
      pres steady 3.277V

i assumed when battery was plugged in it pulled down pres to let it know it was there..
PD1 and PD2 dont seem to be an issue. although im not sure what the function of them are.
PD1 had voltage drop of .800V and 1.48V reversed
PD2 has VD of .600mV on OL reversed
      is PD1 an issue?

3v2 on the SMBUS (I2C) lines is ok. These 2 lines will be used to extract ID info by the KBC controller. You may have to reflash the KBC but personally do not have experience with this area.

The PBAT_PRES#_C line is active LOW so 0V is ok. To confirm, you can remove the battery and check the PBAT_PRES#_C line again.

See attached. Monitor the voltage at the junction with and without the battery.

Do you see a difference ?

          Yes i can confirm PBAT_PRES#_C is 3V2 w/o battery

At this time, believe the decision of whether it is a Dell battery or not is made by the KBC. The KBC has an internal 8051 microcontroller (if I recall correctly) that uses firmware for the assorted function. Wait for feedback from others like @SMDFlea who is very knowledgeable on the KBC. Issue may be just the incorrect bios which also holds the KBC firmware.

Is that the chip i posted in first post?
Ive tried at lest 5 bios ranging from latest to earliest.

Thank you for your help and info so far

Re: latitude e5550 - no charge- all battery not recognized as genuine

yes - same. Any chance the KBC has solder ball issues or is defective?

Does the keyboard work ok ?

That is, perhaps the I2C (SMBUS) lines are not reaching the KBC balls ?

The external pull-ups are working since you have +3v3 (approx) for these open-drain lines. However, in the end, the KBC is the bus master and must communicate with the battery logic.

I think you also noted that the AC adapter is not detected properly? That too is a function of the KBC.

Powered with ac adapter only(no battery attached)-still ac adapter "UNKNOWN"?? If yes, I think we need to fix this issue first before going to charging issue.

Re: latitude e5550 - no charge- all battery not recognized as genuine

The adapter seems to work fine and has always been detected in bios as proper wattage.
The battery LED flashes white and amber only when battery is installed. both when charger is present and not
But i found this which only confused me more and made me question adapter circuit
                    https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/e...ps-and-tablets

The keyboard and whole laptop functions normally.

non of the chips seem to be BGA

Also i have the dead battery still.. if i put that back in the LED flashes rapid orange so it does seem like circuitry is working right and that its a weird firmware glitch

a boardview file would be nice. dells schematics suck i feel like.
whats up with the weird pin alpha numeric crap

Alphanumeric usually means the package is a BGA or QFN

                        Update:

Found it in the schematic and the symbol is marked as:

                        MEC5085-LZY_DQFN132_11X11

So it is a 11x11mm QFN (Quad Flat Pack package)

What is the part number of the battery?
                            G5M10 or 6MT4T?

Bingo! That is your problem - this model work only with G5M10! 6MT4T is the same size and shape, even the connector for the battery cable is the same but is for another model (E5470). So try with G5M10 battery, and everything will be fine.
