HP 15 ac102la dead no power

No power. Disk not spinning. Charging led won't turn on. Tried with and without battery.

Motherboard is abq52-la-c811p. 19.5 v on the power jack red wires, 0.7 on brown and 0 on all the others.

0v on PQB1 and PQB2 and 0 on PRB1. I think it is a short to ground, but cannot test further on live voltage as the motherboard has started to spark around the capacitors near the mosfets above.

I need to replace the mosfets, caps and resistors near tehm too as I fear they are damaged from the sparking, but where else should I test to find the short? Does anyone understand the power architecture and can they explain it to me?

    Attached is schematic of motherboard.

    hi.

    1) remove all power to the logic board.

    2) meter in resistance mode.

    3) measure & post the resistance for the following:

    a) PQB1: drain (pin 5-6-7-8) & source (1-2-3)

    b) PQB1: drain (5-6-7-8) & gate (4)

    c) PQB1: source (1-2-3) & gate (4)

    d) PQB2: source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)

    e) PQB2: source (1-2-3) & gate (4)

    f) PQB2: gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8)

Resistance values are inconsistent. Tried with two different multimeters. The source gate resistance for both mosfets starts at around 14k and afterwards keeps climbing up, while the source drain and gate drain starts at 88k and keeps climbing up for both as well. They take very long to settle and settle at different values, but all the values are at the 10k-210k

So the mosfets do not appear to be shorted.

If you apply the power adapter, are you able to take voltage measurements?

Concerned about the sparks noted in your post. What caused the sparks?

        1) voltage @ PDB1, pin 2? pin 3 ? pin 1 ? The voltage @ pin 1 will be used to power the charger IC @ PUB1.

        2) voltage @ ACDRV_CHG_R ?

        3) sheet 4 / 52 of the schematic offers the power rail sequencing for this logic board. Follow these in order (from the top) to see which rail is not working and post your results here.

Ugh, cannot find pdb1 in this mess. I am new to this, where is it exactly?

Covered in flux from a previous repair, I think? Cannot contact client now to be sure, but where else would the flux come from?

I think PRB5 is the one I highlighted in yellow as it has 10 ohm resistance and continuity with PUB1, but where is PBD1?

There is a current sense resistor just after the 2 dc-in mosfets(maybe rated R010). What is the resistance to GND on this resistor?? It seems you have short in +19V rail.

Lenovo Ideapad 5 14ITL05 not powering on
                by tantr13
                Hi everyone,
This is my first post so I'm hoping to get some help on this awesome forum. As a preface, I'm an amateur at electronics, especially troubleshooting complicated devices like laptops. However, I'm trying to develop a skill for it so I can learn how these devices work and how to repair them without continuing the wasteful tradition of throwing them away and buying new. 🤮

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad 5 14ITL05 for a few years now, with motherboard LA-K321P. I would never leave it plugged in unless I was using it, and always turned it off after I was done, but last week...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
                by double_DD
                Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

                ps5 edm-033 dead after hdmi/usb ports destroyed
                by disorder
                hello guys,

                i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
                so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.
                ...

Acer Nitro 5 (EH5VF motherboard) all works except battery charging
                by malogro
                Hi all,

Another puzzle if you are so inclined. Attached PCB/Schems.

                Background:

This unit came to me as "no power". Simple visual inspection revealed a blown up PQB11. I replaced it along with PQB12 just out of standard procedure of replacing them as pairs, and even though it fought me tooth and nail I was able to get a new one in and the board booted fine first try after that.

I've since tested the laptop to boot and even stress tested; no issues whatsoever. However, battery won't charge. It will work off the battery no problems...

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 not charging
                by CPUFiddler
Hi there. I am trying to repair an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 and it's giving me some trouble. I have access to SMD rework station, variable power supply, digital oscilloscope, thermal camera, multimeter, stereo microscope.
This laptop will boot and run from the power brick and/or the internal battery, but it will not charge the battery. NirSoft BattInfo tells me the charge/discharge currents, so I'm confident in saying that it's not charging. In addition, there's no increase in voltage at the battery connector when the laptop thinks it's charging, not even a few millivolts.
                I've downloaded...
