HP LA-D711P no power after not charging

    Hello,

my LA-D711P stop working. found and replaced a failed ceramic at 3VALW.
after that, battery couldn't charge but laptop could turn on.
found that PQ4 was shorted. I replaced the PQ4 but no voltage on gate.

    Any idea will be welcome.

    Thank you

Which charging IC is in use here?? Measure ACP/ACN/CMSRC/ACDRV/ACDET/REGN pins for voltage.

          @DanielDacko - great document !

@incorrect, what is Vcc on this charger BQ IC ?

Re: HP LA-D711P no power after not charging

I took a look to the bq datasheet yesterday already. I believe that the ic needs replacement, because of the shorted pq4 earlier.i will replace it as soon i receive a new ic and i will keep you up to date.

@mon2 the voltage on vcc seems normal.

What is the resistance on pin5 of 1st dc-in mosfet?? If the resistance is good, then try replacing the charging IC.

Check the first 2 mosfets mated with the adapter.

After the charging IC replacement, what are the voltages on ACDRV ? CMSRC ?

                      ACDRV and CMSRC still 0V.
I removed the 2nd mosfet and shorted source with drain. ACDRV and CMSRC went to 0.8V.
Also, i found that BATDRV is 1.5V. not sure if it's normal

                        update.

while i plug the charger i see a spike of 0.5v on the gate of the first mosfet.
seems like somethings turns the gate off.

From @DanielDacko (see above post), attached are the normal voltages for this charger IC.

Do not remove and bridge mosfets - this can lead to possible further damage.

On the removed mosfet - check the resistance on this part while it is out of circuit:

                          source to drain resistance ?

                          source to gate resistance ?

                          gate to drain resistance ?

With the mosfet on the logic board - do you see the adapter voltage reach the right side of the 2nd mosfet ? What is the voltage ?

HP Probook 470 G4 - Power and Charging Problem
                                by Scoff
Looking for some help with this one if anybody can assist please? I have an HP Probook 470 G4 Laptop which recently started to intermittently failing to turn on, with intermittent white LED light(charging LED) by the charging port when it should have been charging and showing an orange LED instead. Definitely some sort of gradual failure. Now the laptop fails to power on at all, no charging LED, no Power Button LED either - seemingly dead.
Stripped down to the bare motherboard. The original HP battery, when disconnected from the motherboard, is reading 0.00v - possibly some sort of protection...

                                Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                Hello!

This is my first post for help, and I am quite newer to board repair, so bear with me.

I have this board here (LA-E671P), with no power, and doesn't charge. No lights come on when plugged in.

After visual inspection of the board, U22 is obviously blown up. This is the for backlight, and there is no shorts present after removing the chip and replacing.

There is 3 USB C ports to power this board, USB 1 gives 20V, while 2 and 3 only give 5V.

My observations using USB 1 at 20V (0.075A draw on Ammeter, slowly drops from 0.136A)...

LG 42LB5D (42LB5DF-UL) from 2008-01, unit is in good shape and no obvious heat damage or cracked solder on the boards.

                                Problem:
On first power-up the power LED flashes green about 18x and then stays solid. No backlight or image is present. Click power button, wait 10s for a click and the LED turns red. Wait 1-2s and hit power again and maybe it'll power up fully after 6 green flashes. If it doesn't light up on the sixth flash then the cycle repeats.

It seems that if the mainboard power is left on for a few minutes (solid green power, no backlight, no image)...
