Computer boots and gets the software update. No visible water damage. All connections tested on another logic board and they all work. The logic board only gives this error when booting normally. Boots fine in safe mode. None the less still looking for visual damage and nothing shows damaged on the board. Board has everything disconnected except the USB C and battery so it can boot normally. Plugged up to external monitor. Boot into safe mode and I'm now trying to install Combo update and see if that works, if not any suggestions? I also checked the Wiki Critical Software update page and followed all steps to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bumping this again. Logic board boots into safe mode etc. Boots externally into safe mode with no attachments. But when booting normally it has the software update requirement with nothing attached. Logic board is operating normally minus this issue so trying to trace points where we should check. Thanks againsigpic

Have no idea if this actually works or not, but have heard that if you manually set the system time (through terminal from recovery partition) to 1/1/2016 you may be able to get past this. Again, haven't tried it but resetting the system time is too easy not to at least try it? Let me know if it works?Comment

this board suffered from a bad trackpad and bad keyboard after liquid damage; board was turning on no issues..
we've replaced the bad trackpad and bad keyboard no issues whatsoever.. during 2nd final checkup we booted to an external macOS and there started the critical update issue; it boots externally but to the internal SSD it shows critical update; tried Wi-Fi tried Ethernet tried Hotspot same thing..
One weird symptom is it takes too long to power on and show the Apple logo for some reason..

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue before I give up on this TV.
In short, I replaced the T-CON board due to an error code indicating that was the problem, after which it flashed a green and orange LED meaning software update required. I cannot get the tv to do the required update via USB, so I am stuck.

We have a Macbook A1706 (820-00239). The laptop was bought back from a customer. The touchbar was broken ( No Image) but touch used to work.
One day it had a "Critical Software Update Error" issue.

Hi There,
This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.
After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
