    Dell 1558 1.5v high side mosfet very hot?

    Hope someone can help with diagnosing/fixing a dell 1558 that I've been working on, with the aid of Quanta FM9C schematic and boardview, (downloaded from this site...Thanks

    Original symptom was shorted Mainboard, cutting out the psu.

    PQ41 (high side Mosfet on 1.5v Rail) got warm when 19v rail was injected with 5V-2a.

    The Mosfet was changed out from a donor board, and the short disappeared, but the laptop wouldn't start and would only charge the battery.

    On inspection the voltage regulator chip Tps51116 showed signs of a previous repair .... a blown trace next to pin 23 (VBST).

    I've re-bridged the trace today and the laptop now starts, as soon as 19v is plugged in. Fan spins at full chat immediately, but no display. PQ41 gets hot, very quickly. I get a low ohm reading from 1.5v coil to ground 3ohm..?

    I took off a couple of caps, but then i notice quite a few on Dram that I,m reluctant to lift, as the problem may lay elswhere. (When coil is lifted, the low ohm short apears on 1.5v sus... Any advice? (other than the bin)

    I think you changed the PQ40 and PU5 together with PQ41. When the coil is removed, if the low ohm short circuit appears at 1.5v sus, not only the DDR3 ram but also the VGA_RAM chpip may be broken.

      Thanks for quick reply Sametbey.

      (I acknowledge changing PQ40 and PU5 too).

      With regards to VGA_RAM, I,m not familiar with the term chpip?

        Hi Sametbey , Im fairly new to repairing motherboards, I assume chpip = chip...I get it now..short is present without DDR3 installed.What would you recommend for checking a VGA RAM short?

          It goes to many places like RAM, VGA, PCH. You can find the heated part by removing the PL7 coil by giving it 1.2V. Or by removing the chips. and you can check after PQ11.

              Update:

              Voltage injection on 1.5v reveals a bad cap (C565)
              now removed and PL7 reconnected.

              On start up, (no ram istalled) fan spins for about 5 seconds, then board shut down?
              PQ40 lowside fet was getting hot prior to laptop shutting itself down.?

              Checking PU5 and fet condition,

                I believe the 1.5v is now sorted, though other issues are being investigated on this link

                  Intel DX58SO high side VRM MOSFET keeps failing
                  by dougg3
                  Hi there,

                  I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard that failed last year. One of the high side VRM MOSFETs failed shorted, and it killed my i7 980 CPU. This motherboard has a 6-phase VRM. The parts used on this motherboard's VRM are:
                  • 6 x High side MOSFET: NTMFS4841NH
                  • 6 x Low side MOSFET: NTMFS4834N
                  • 6 x Driver: ADP3121JCPZ

                  It was easy to figure out where the short was, because the bad MOSFET's gate was shorted to the drain/source too. Once I removed it, all the shorts were gone on the motherboard, and I confirmed on the removed MOSFET itself that the gate/drain/source...

                  High side mosfet of the power supply of the RTX2060 graphic chip burned out
                  by zwerw3
                  Hello. They brought a personal computer for repair in which the video card was GeForce RTX ™ 2060 WINDFORCE OC 6G (rev. 1.0). Graphics core power mosfet burned out.
                  Is there a chance to restore the site where the mosfet was? I started to grind the mosfet substrate with a dremel, which stuck to the board, but for now I stopped and decided to ask you for advice. I also noticed dark spots on the PCB near the video memory chips. Does this mean that the video memory is out of order? I cleaned the place where there was a burnout, a short circuit of 12 V was removed. On the coils on the power...

                  Asus P4C800-E VRM issues
                  by c_corr
                  This board had the initial fault in VRM with high side Mosfet from PWM1 (phase 1) getting very hot. It also had the VRM caps quicly heating up in 10-15 seconds after power on.

                  This board uses mext ICs and Mosfets in VRM:
                  - ADP3180 PWM controller - in 3 phase mode
                  - ADP3418 as Modfet drivers
                  - High side Mosfets STD38NH02L (from ST)
                  - Low side Mosfets STD90NH02L

                  Some of the symptoms were very similar with the "Dead Asus P5P800-VM" in this forum.
                  I had the sawtooth voltage on Vcore too this was probably the cause of the Vcore caps...

                  hi there

                  this mac 820-3115 , soo slow and not booting i start using ASD please check attached photos

                  i satrt with "Power Sensors: High Side"

                  i found there is issue @ "OTHER High Side Current Sense (IO0R)"

                  PP3V3_S0_HS_OTHER_ISNS = 3.3

                  ISNS_HS_OTHER_N = 12.6
                  ISNS_HS_OTHER_P = 12.6

                  HS_OTHER_IOUT = 0
                  so i removed R5419. and still same issue no short to ground at all clean board and i replaced U5410 with same issue no change...
