HP Elitebook 8460p wont boot into bios screen

Hi All - I have an HP Elitebook 8460p which failed during a bios update.

The Motherboard No. is 6050A2398701-MB-A02 HSTNN-190C (UMA variant)

The bios chip is a Winbond W25Q64FVSIG

All I get at power on is a black screen and the corrupted bios signal (2 flashes of the Caps & Num lock LEDs). I've tried flashing the various bios dumps (from this website) to the Bios IC both in circuit and out but the problem stays the same as described.
Can anyone give any pointers for next steps - am I fighting encryption keys stored on board the mobo, TPM etc?
I noticed that the checksum changes for the on chip bios file after a failed boot - is it being written to by the mobo and invalidated or is it a sign of a failing bios ic?

    Really appreciate any help

Hi - I used the Rayer SPI / parallel port wiring for all flashes both on and off board. I used both flashrom and the SPIPGM programs in a linux environment

Thanks for the advice - I'll get a proper programmer. Can a corrupt bios stop the laptop booting as I have experienced or would you expect (at the minimum) to be able to boot with errors coming up?

Yep most of the time when bios is corrupt computer will not respond to the PWRBTWN dead in condition but sometimes boots with no image

Re: HP Elitebook 8460p wont boot into bios screen

Late (very!) update for anyone who also has this problem with 8460p. For me (as advised by techtiger) I got it resolved by using a proper programmer (Ch341a - which I modded for compatibility with the 8460p bios IC which uses 3V i/o).
I removed bios chip from mobo (dont know if its just me but in circuit programming was unreliable).
Next I programmed a full bios image to the bios IC with CH341a.
Refitted bios chip to mobo and it booted!
Many thanks for advice and good luck if anyone needs to do the same!

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

Hi, I have a few of these & they came with a custom bios boot logo, no passwords etc.

2 x were brand new unused but with custom boot logo, 1 I installed Windows/ran updates then it bricked itself. 1 wouldn't get past the custom bios boot logo.

The third I loaded windows, took a backup of the bios chip, then tried to flash several different clean bios's via programmer which all caused it to not boot. I tried to reflash the original bios both using clip & desoldering but...

                Elitebook 850 G5 BIOS bricked
                by Guest
                Hello,

I have an EliteBook 850 G5. After a Windows update, including a BIOS update, the notebook turns on, but the screen remains black, and the fans spin at high speed—nothing else happens.

I assume the BIOS update failed, so I searched for the BIOS chip.

I found a Winbond chip located between the RAM and the hard drive, which has a size of 32 MB.

However, the BIOS update available on HP's website is only 17 MB in size. I used the update version that was previously installed when the notebook was still working.

                Can the corrupted...

Bios partially corrupted somehow and now warm boot doesn't work which is critical
                by Neddsme
                Hie.
I own a Lenovo ideapad v310-15IKB with an i5 7th generation with only Intel graphics configuration.
Now the heart of the problem is that I don't know when or how it happened but I suddenly started getting distortion in the graphics output on the LCD. This basically meant a black screen full of flickering multicolored short horizontal lines. This would happen 30-60 minutes after booting and using it normally.
I run Windows 10 20H build so I thought it was just a Windows update issue or graphics driver outdated issue.
I managed to run Windows troubleshooting and...

Lenovo LOQ mdl 151RH8 bios Q: Can't get usb boot to list
                by Max029
I've searched and read Beginners guidelines and other sticky threads. This is just a simple bios question. If I may, I'm having trouble finding any help, including from lenovo tech support & forum, for how to get usb boot to list in boot options. I'm trying to run memtest86 so nothing as highfaluting as re-install, flash a bios, etc.

I've made usb boot enabled and secure boot is disabled. I can find no other option in bios ver LZCN34WW (the original bios). Would anyone here be familiar with LOQ or Legion bios versions & know what is going on?
