HP EliteBook 8760w BIOS Chip Location?

Greetings to you all. I need to replace or re-flash the corrupted BIOS chip on an HP EliteBook 8760w (Quad Core version). The BIOS was corrupted or erased by a nasty virus and the laptop will not power on at all so the Win+B key combination doesn't work to do the emergency restore of the BIOS. Where is the BIOS chip specifically located on the motherboard? I think that it may be the 8-pin chip located near the external battery port and memory slots on the bottom of the laptop (as seen in the picture) but I am not certain. I apologize that I am not yet very experienced with reading motherboard schematics so your advice and guidance would be most welcome.

The numbers on that chip start with MXIC MX25L64046EM2I-12G which correspond to the BIOS schematic I found (screenshot also attached). The number on the board next to the chip is U10060 which also corresponds to the BIOS schematic screenshot. I've included a closeup shot of the chip on my motherboard for comparison.

If this is not the BIOS chip, could someone please post a photo that clearly indicates the actual location of the BIOS chip on the motherboard? Thank you very much. You help is deeply appreciated.

Thank you very much for the confirmation. I am aware of the tool needed to flash the BIOS and have already ordered it.

Make sure 3V VCC is available in pin 8 if not set dead

So you are saying that if pin 8 doesn't have 3V VCC available then the BIOS chip is dead and should be replaced?

Set dead means the MB will not power up, just check if you get 3V with out pressing the power pin 1/8 should get +V3AL this is a LDO from Tps51123 regulator pin number eight provides this voltage

Thanks for the advice. When the battery or power supply is connected, the fan kicks on for a few seconds along with all of the LEDs (with nothing on the display) then shuts off and continues in this loop until power is removed. The BIOS on a second identical 8760w was affected by the same virus and exhibits this exact same behavior.

Most likely BIOS fault MB tries to read the bios rom, fails and loop

Re: HP EliteBook 8760w BIOS Chip Location?

When requesting a full BIOS dump (in the BIOS Requests thread) for the 8760w, is it necessary for me to specify the exact series build of my motherboard?

My motherboard has a label on it near the DIMM slots that shows this model number:

                  652509-001 SYS BD 4 DIMM

When looking for schematics for the 8760w, I have seen that there appears to be at least two version builds of the 4 DIMM board (there could be more I suppose):

                  AEROSMITH_6050A2438301_PVR-Build_A01_20110311_4-DIMM_MB
                  AEROSMITH_6050A2438301_MV-Build_A03_20110826_4-DIMM_MB

Since my laptop won't power on, I don't have an easy way to verify exactly which board I have.

The BIOS updater provided by HP is model specific so the update appears to cover all versions of the 8760w motherboards. Are the 8760w full BIOS dumps (like those shared in this forum) compatible with every build of the 4 DIMM board or do I need a full dump specific to the build of my board?

Your advice is deeply appreciated. Thank you.
